Now, THAT is the 1800 dollar question. I am certain that I will eventually
develop a pretty serious inferiority complex in short order if I go with one of
those dang nice priced 'ready builts' at the J & M site. What a deal !

As many of these as I have had to put together (back when I was on the course) I know by the time I buy a piston set/rods/maybe a main bearing..
and put it together..(and I would be stressing if I forgot anything) it is
waaaaaaay easier/cheaper to just buy one already done and swap cores..

On the other hand, One of the things we did for fun was add second axles, lift them, put in a single cylinder kohler out of a sand rake, or a old tees unit, to haul weedeaters and handmowers on the course.

That was in 85-6. So for the past few years I have been watching all these
modded carts and preparing for the day.. I no longer twist a wrench
for a living..but it's fun to do it yourself.. These big block units are so
cool.. I think what I need to do is go actually check one out up close...
locally..and then go from there.

I just spent this months fun money anyway..

Here is a plan, put some of those sockets in the case bolt it together and shake it in front of the missus and say WE need a big block. She will share her pin money.

Looks like a great project cart. Big block would be nice. So would a lift, off road tires, lights, etc.... I'm sure the wish list goes on and on but that's what makes it fun. Keep us posted on plans and progress.

IF you have above average mechanic and fab skills and more time than $, like some of us THen just look for a suitable V twin or honda clone and and start at it.... do Lots & Lots of research and enjoy the process

what is wrong the engine you have torn down? Also would you be interested in selling the motor for parts?

Well... I've decided that based on money and practicality, I am
going to get a rebuilt motor from J&M , I think it is.. (waiting to hear back)
and do my lift first.. then I will decide whether to keep this one as an actual
workhorse, and trick up another one, or trick this one.

In any event, I will have the extra motor when I do decide to upgrade to
big block, and I will have a usable cart while I am getting the dough together.

This is a great site for golf cart info that's no mistake.

I like it! If you plan to lift and install big tires, you might as well put a bigger motor in now. That 11 hp with big tires really doesn't do it. Even with a 28 degree clutch.
The 11 hp with stock tires runs good.
I have 22's and a brand new MCI 350 (new version of your motor) and am going to put in a bigger motor. This is used for work and won't pull speed or loads up a hill. It has the hi torque clutch and all. The big tires require more HP.

Does anyone know what yrs they made this body style? I am lookin at buying a workhorse with this same body style from a guy and he doesnt know the year model. It's an electric cart and is super clean! I've had an electric cart before and liked the quietness it offered and seemed perfect for constant start/stops during odd jobs like checking fence, etc. I'm having a hard time finding anything about the electric workhorse, all I have found is the gas models. I know very little about carts so if anyone has any advice before i buy this thing it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
