Default Monsterezgokid's Monster Hunting Build

Howdy everyone,

well as we now winter is still here, and the carting buissness tends to slow down a bit. I was just scrolling around pictures of my carts and carts ive built for customers when i found one my recent builds i did late last fall. So i decided to share the build with you, and the outcome of what a bunch of new parts can do and a bit of tlc!

One more thing i wanted to say too... is i wish i had a garage to do all of this work in.. ive got all the tools, welders and such to do work on these, but the garage is full of other carts so working out in the elements is not fun at all.. I did however go out an buy a canopy system when i started working on it.

Ok well here it is, this is what i started off with. its a 1998 metalist DCS.. wow looks like its had lots of fun carting in its days!

so i striped it down to the frame, but did not remove the front cowl because i had some issues getting some of the rivets in time.. not to worry

ok did some body work on the panels and front, and finished it off in jaguar racing green metallic.. The customer wanted a colour that wouldnt be too bright for hunting, yet sitll looked classy to use up around the cottage and stuff.

Brought the frame to a good pal of mine to check for geometry... Straight as an arrow, and got it all cleaned up, and paint got touched up in some areas.
Cart came back, put the panels back on, and put on the new sumbrella seat covers.. These seat covers are super nice.. Water repellent, and the mud just washes off!

The ultimate accessory came in!

The Xp2140 from advance motors.. Ohh yah.. this this hauls!.. its 15.5 hp at 36v.. and i said to my self, im gonna give this customer the upgrade that should be done now at this point in the build.. so i did a complete 48v conv on the cart.. Called advance up to make sure its ok to run the motor on 48v. they said they never had anyone do it before.. so after talking to some of the engineers, i was ok to go, but i knew the motor could handle it no problem.

When i removed the access cover to check out the brushes, i almost craped myself

you cant really tell too much by the photo, but each one of those brushes are the size of a 9v battery. And it has 8 in total

Ok so the factory ezgo lift kit came in. it came with all new front st spindles which i needed, and everything else to rise this cart up off the ground. The kit also came with new steering control arms. so that was a bonus I also rebuilt the entire steering rack so its tight like a new cart. New brakes, new hd front and rear springs, new cables, and basicaly anything else that could be replaced with new parts, was replaced.. Even the plastics and such.
I also slapped on some new fairway alloys renegade rims with EFX Blade tires, a great combo, and those tires have great traction.

The motor sitting all pretty and such, waitng for its new found power.

Ta.Da

All new 2ga wires, alltrax dcx 500 controller, and all the other goodies, also some 6v intersate batts.. they have been great batts so far in my other carts, and they are a good price

TA.DA!!!!

So it has a floor mounted gun rack, rear flip down seat, cooler in the back for when your stocking prey in the bush, and you need to refresh. and a bunch more stuff. this pic is an older pic, alog with the pic after that. i dont have any recent ones.. It now has a complete winch system in the front, and some fog lights. I also put on a complete removeable camo enclosure kit on it..
So how does this thing perform.. Well before the customer picked it up, i did some testing around the yard and fields to make sure its was running in tip top shape. So when he picked it up, he wanted me to do a kinda "field test" with him and his friends up where he hunts.. So im like, great, ill see what this thing can really do!

All i have to say is that, i had high hopes for electric carts with the torque and everything, but this trip FAR SURPASSED what i thought an electric cart could do.. Dont forget i drive my on road cart all the time, and it hauls!.
We had the hunting cart loaded with 4 people on it about 290lb each., and were tackling hills that even the 4 wheelers where spinning their wheels getting up it.. and we just strolled along letting the cart do the work, and climb us over the hills and rocks. I just couldnt believe it.. I mean we werent breaking any speed records, but its all about the stealth and torque.. Oh yah, on 48v i predict this motor makes about 18.5-19hp.. as for torque, i dont have the torque graphs on hand with me.

Ok so the test went really well, and everyone was surprised that this thing did what it did.. not to forget that 99.999% of the people in Canada have never seen a golf cart go off road, letalone think that it could even been done.. SO they were really admazed.

i so wish i had more pics when we took it for a spin but i was having too much fun!

Oh yah, one more thing. ive clocked the cart on flat land too and it goes about 19-21mph once the field adjustment circut kicks in for optimal speed. Its crazy fast for a heavy cart like this. it feels like your driving a hummer. LOL

So thats about it. the motor still needs to break in, so increased performance improvements will continue in the spring once he uses it more, i know the customer really well, so whenever we are up visiting his cottage ill get to take it for a spin.. agian!

Looks great, bro!!

I've got a 97 medalist gasser, and am thinking about getting some new plastic. Is it pretty costly? Mainly, the plastic on my front cowl has a couple tears in it.

The plastics are actualy not that expensive, i was surprised that some of them were still avalable for the fact that that cart style wasnt out for very long. I was able to get the rear fender plastics, top fender scuff plastics, and the front cowl plastic no problem from my supplier.

Somewhere about 90$ give or take a bit to do them all and some christmas trees to put in the suff guards.. they were pretty sun faded, the side runners were still in great condition

Cool! I'll have to start saving my allowance

Thanks! I really like the rim/tire combo you chose for that, btw!

Take care!
