Double Project
I must be a glutton for punishment. I have started two projects at the same time. This one is my 2000 G16, I have a big block and a lift ordered for it from Cart Parts Plus. For now I spent the evening getting it ready for the new engine.

The second half of my double project is a 81 G1. This one will be pretty mild for now, my objective is to just get it running. I should have an engine on it's way in about a week thanks to one of this boards members.
On a side note I want to give a shout out to Cart Parts Plus. I was needing new belts and a tune up kit for this cart and called my local Yamaha cart dealer and thought I could just pick them up on my lunch hour. They called me back when they found the parts that I was asking for and said it take about 10 days to get them and that it would cost right at $200 with freight.  I told them I would get back with them if I wanted them. I jumped online and check the price of the same parts at Cart Parts Plus and am getting everything I need plus a G16 king pin kit for just over $100  |

Tonight's work. I installed a receiver hitch along with front and rear lift kits. All went well until I got to the front. Both front king pins were rusted in place. I had been soaking them with penetrating spray for 3 days and they still wouldn't budge. I started with light persuasion using a hammer, went to air hammer then small hand held torch and air hammer and still no luck. I ended up getting the big torch out, had to heat the spindle to glowing hot and still use the air hammer but I finally got them out. I have gone as far as I can on the front, new king pin kit should be here in a few days. My big block should be here tomorrow.

Tonight's work, installed new king pins and bushings, tie rod risers, enlarged engine holes to accept big block mounts, installed motor, hooked up power wires, installed exhaust and bent muffler support to fit, hooked up fuel line, installed belt and then it was time for a test fire. Sounds nice, can't wait to get it finished to drive it. Did some fine adjusting of the throttle cable, drilled holes and installed starter switch and choke cable, installed front and rear body and cargo box. Tomorrow afternoon when I get done with my weekend duty shift at the fire department I will finish it up and go for a test drive.
A couple of things that you may want to remember if you do one of these, look at the length of the motor mounts bolts, they are different lengths. I didn't look at them and was a bit concerned (more like wound up and talking to myself  ) before I figured it out. the other thing is the length of the positive battery cable, mine is a little shorter than I would like. I think it would probably work fine but I would prefer that it be a little longer to offer a better routing option. |

Today I finished the G16. Installed, roof, tach, last of body fasteners, adjusted brakes, installed tires and went for a drive. Played on the trails for a while and then drove into town and back out to the trails a little.
This thing has a ton of torque, hills that I had to get a run at I can now stop on and just gas on it to go up. I have found out that I have to be a little careful with the throttle going up the hills, the front end gets pretty light which which for some reason makes it extremely hard to keep it pointed in the direction that I intended to go. |

I now have one third of the fleet ready for play. The one on the right is the one with the big block. I'll have to see how the mood strikes me, I may paint them this spring when it warms up. Now to see how much longer it will be before I get the engine for the G1 so I can go play on it.
