Rat Cart Laher

OK so, I picked up this cart up that has been sitting outside along side a garage for as long as I can remember.... at least 20 years through Michigan winters. My goal is to turn it in to a Rat Rod Cart for now and maybe eventually make it pretty..... Uh, prolly not. The first thing I want to do is convert the rear end to something that I can mount a yoke and a U-joint to. My first question is, does any one know what the pinion for this rear end should look like? It was an electric cart. Second question, is there any chance whatsoever that I could find one? And the third question is, should I just forget about this rear end and find a different one?

It is probably painfully obvious that I am entirely new to the whole cart scene so, any comments or suggestions are welcome.

What kind of cart is it?Looks like this could get intersting.I would probably try ti find something else ,but who knows you might luck out.good luck!oh and more pics.

It is a Laher. I didn't know the first thing about them so I Googled it and found out that the company was called Laher Spring & Electric Car Corp. They made all kinds of cool little electric vehicles. The information that I found was from 1960.

Looks like a great opportunity to spend a ton of cash!!!

Your best bet If you insist on going forward with this project would be to buy a newer donor cart and drop the complete drive system in it.
A cart needing batteries could be had for under $400-$500, then Batteries another $500-$600.
You might get in and out of it complete with paint and seats $1500.00

Post up some pics and lets get started.

This cart is only going to have one 12V battery. It will be used to start the twin cylinder gas Onan engine that I have for it : )

you will have to find a 4 stroke gas rear end to make that work. also check in the big block forum for ideas on installing an engine like that...i think it will probably work better if you have some way to steer it.

Hopefully you picked that cart up for nothing so you can make money with it at the scrap yard

Research your project and options more before selecting a different cart to start with.

I'll bet you $100 you can not find all the brake parts for that thing..... Let alone how are you going to attain a reverse gear even if you could 'adapt' a gas motor to it....... I'm sorry, I know we are suppose to be supportive but this project needs a reality check

I like the looks of the body, but like was said before I would look for a newer donor parts cart for it.

Something with a metal frame like an EZGO would be where I started my search. That way you would have newer components and parts availability along with being able to weld the two frames together if need be.

I look forward to seeing how this turns out!

Like Scotty & Scott said, If you like the body,Find an old Gas Donor cart (An old harley or columbia 3 wheeler,Lots of those out there with crap bodies) & attach this body to it,I like it! more pix!!!!!!!!
