Default cart advise.....

im fixxing to take in a beat up ezgo for free, but its going to need just about everything (seriously). that leaves the option to purchase all upgraded replacement parts though, with this being said....its only around $1000-1500 difference to buy a cart already running and lifted.

and if purchasing a new cart is route im going, what carts is the best all around cart to have? im more interested in electric, but not opposed to going gas.

please, and thank you all for any suggestions.

Thank you, I've been lurking here for awhile....just trying to find time & $$$ to start a build. Here's what free got me, a beat up old service cart, it was heading to the scrap yard. A buddy of mine saved her. if anyone knows what it is ezgo model it is. Please chime it. I pick it up next week.

Looks like a TXT from what I can tell. Either a series cart or a DCS. Is there a toggle switch on top of the controller cover?

Yep, I looked through your build today. Im thinking it's going to be about the same amount of work heading my way if I keep this cart. Awesome build btw.

i look at it this way. free and or cheap is the way i like to go. tear it to the bone and rebuild from the ground up with all brand new parts and wiring. that way you know whats in there and how its done. i have a '96 gas ezgo that is in outstanding shape. far better shape than much much newer carts that i seen around here. but ive torn mine to the frame twice and redone most everything both times. i know whats what on my cart and what does what and what i need to do to fix it if it breaks.

great find and good luck. ask away for anything. plus, $1200 in new parts and upgraded parts is better than $1200 on a bone stock cart

Thank you so much. In all honesty it did not have to be that much work. I just turned it into that. Hell when I got it it ran great, just like it was in the first 2 pictures of my build thread. Allthough it is a fricking blast to build them and its so darn easy. Plus if you buy the cart allready running and lifted what is there to be proud of??.... the fact that the cart you are driving was built by the previous owner... Like Blake said you will learn the ends and outs of the cart, how it works, why certain things are in certain places for specific reasons so on and so forth. Plus if you have any questions or anything you have this wonderful forum to post up on. Its so simple. I WILL WARN YOU THESE CARTS ARE VERY ADDICTING. Now thats aside we can get back to the point..... get one that needs some work. Just because it needs new batteries or whatever doesnt mean you have to do a frame up restoration like me and blake have done along with many other members on here. You can fix the important problems and abuse the hell out of it, or you can take your time and enjoy the build process of a custom ezgo golf cart. The one pictured is a great starting application. Parts are so readily available for that cart its ridiculous. So sleep on it see what YOU want to do because nobody elses opinion matters except yours.

Blake and I have given our opinions now you need to take the decision into your own hands. Best of luck and I cant wait to help you out with a build.(if you go that route)

It's a lot more fun and you do learn a lot about your cart when you do it yourself

Depends on what you want to do. Do you want to go ride in a golf cart, or build one? That's the question. I wanted both, so I went with a bone stock cart in good condition, and start modifying it a little at a time....so we can play instead of just build. I'm about to pick up a "beater" and start a build on that one and still have my daily driver. That way if the build takes a year, so what. I've learned so much just messing with the one I have, I feel like I would be much better prepared to tackle a full build now.

If buying one in driveable condition I suggest an EZGO TXT series cart 2001.5 to 2006, you should be able to find one in the 1200 range, and it will need work, so you get the best of both worlds.

Good luck and welcome to BGW!

Ight, well after some thought..... I'm gonna build up this cart, I haven't seen it yet. But as long as the frame isn't trashed I'm all in.

This is what I'm wanting to end up with:

Lifted
22" or 23" tires
ITP Wheels
iPod/iPad stereo
Led's
Lights (white driving lights/ red for night creepin)

Now for motor options. 20-25mph is fine, but I want no issues hauling myself (I'm 6'2" 300lbs) plus passenger & beverage box. I'm thinking I'm going electric, but not saying NO to gas yet.

What would be a bullet proof drivetrain? I've looked at PQ & D&D motors as fas as electric. But I have no clue what I'm looking at. What would be an awesome drivtrain set-up (36-48v? Controllers? Motors? Engines? Ect?) I'm anxious to start.
