MY NEW CART!! 1988 Royal Ride
Hi everybody, finally got a new project so I wanted to post it up here. It is my second royal ride, I sold my last one around 6 years ago. They are neat little carts. Bought it from a 91 year old lady in a country club community. Her late husband used to drive it to the club for lunch. It is in fair shape, much better than the beginning stage of the last one I rebuilt. I plan on tearing it apart, new paint and somewhat restoring it to all original. Its got lots of accessories and even a sunroof haha! These are the two pictures I have for now. I'll take some more as the teardown begins this week. Anybody like red or black for new paint color? What do y' all think? Jared

Re: MY NEW CART!! 1988 Royal Ride
thank you, so far I haven't done much. Still planning it out on paper. going to take apart the body this week. Just removed the carpeting and the weird string and leather wrapped steering wheel cover. Anybody know if the replacement wheels they sell at places like buggies unlimited would fit this old of a cart?

Depends on what wheels your looking at. I put 14's on mine, but had to do a lot of work up front to get them to fit.

Re: MY NEW CART!! 1988 Royal Ride
Sak00, I see your beautifully restored a royal ride. I was just doing a preliminary look over on the wiring and I noticed that several of the accessories like the lights and dash blower and ground to the frame. Did you find that as well? Over he years of fixing my golf carts I was always told never to do so. Seems like everything is ground to frame then there is a wire going from a negative post on a battery to the frame. Weird?

I can't remember if my last royal ride was frame ground as about 6 years ago was when I was first getting into carts and got my royal ride so I probably wasn't looking for that type of problem at the time

If I remember correctly, I believe it was wired with everything grounded to the frame. Mine was in such bad shape, I had to rewire everything anyway. So I didn't frame ground anything. I was told you never ground to the frame on an electric cart also. If your going original restoration, then I think you have to frame ground the accessories.

all my wiring is probably going to be redone as well. there is lots of tape and splicing and honestly, I would like to redo it for my own knowledge so I know where everything is and where its going should i need to repair in the future. Plus, I want it much neater than the tangled mess it is now.

I don't blame you for redoing your wiring. Mine was the same as yours. I had more splices than I had wire. And enough electrical tape to build a rat's nest. Some people shouldn't be allowed to do electrical work. Is that a two seater? Hard to tell from the picture.

Re: MY NEW CART!! 1988 Royal Ride
I will be the first to admit that I am no expert at all on wiring, but I am the type to read up and ask as many questions as I need to make sure I don't end up building a rat' nest. Reading on here is certainly preparing me for the job....It's a two seater and so was my last royal ride, I have been looking for a while for one. Anytime I found one they were either in really bad shape or missing too many Royal ride parts that you can't find... Everything works except for the radio that I can see so far. It rides nice but you can tell it is an old cart. Also, its a different experience driving the old 5 solenoid carts compared to my 99 controller cart.
