Just bought first royal ride-70s
Hi,
My fiancé and I just picked up our first royal ride. It's from the early 70s and we want to do a few upgrades to it. Curious to know, where would we look to get a wood dashboard and steering wheel for this model? What about carpeting? Any cool places online to pick up these items? Thanks! Patricia |

Re: Just bought first royal ride-70s
There are at least two other members that have Royals and have done restorations, I am sure they will be able to help you out.
oh and BTW.......CONGRATS on the ride, and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wive's, husbands, girlfirends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy. oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!! |

Re: Just bought first royal ride-70s
Hi and welcome, I have owned two royal rides in the past. I Just have one now and did a pretty extensive resotration on it. Couldn't have done it without the help of sak00, the other member on here with a royal ride as well.
I think that you should post some more pictures up on here so we can help you out. Especially some under the seat so we can see the battery and electronics setup. Also, look under the dashboard and you will see a part of the aluminum frame running along under the dash. There should be a club car ID plate on there with a serial number. Post that up here so we can give you some help with the year. Some of these royal rides can date back pretty old to the club cars with 3 pedal set up. Does your have three pedals or is the parking brake part of the brake pedal? As far as actual chasis parts like shocks, brakes, and electronics they should all be club car and those are usually easy to get especially if your cart may be newer than you think. However, these royal rides are no longer made anymore so body parts can't be found unless you found a cheap royal ride as a parts cart. Be careful with the fiberglass body and grill. I see you have a non-original hood ornament. If you want an original I know where to get them just PM me. As far as a dash goes you will have to go custom. I had mine wrapped at a car wrapping place in black carbon fiber. Looks really cool. I think sak00 told me he wrapped his in carbon fiber wrap. Some of the royal rides came with an actual wood dash. As far as updating electronics to go fast I cant help you much there. The original motor was upgraded before I got mine and somehow it is faster than my other 99 club car that I have. It beats it by a lot which is weird considering my royal ride is on a stock 85 club car frame that should do about 12 mph. Either way, somebody should chime in about electronics. I'm sure it wont be cheap to upgrade though. Probably involve upgrading to a solid state 48v system which means new batteries and charger plus all new electronics $$ Welcome again! glad to see another classic royal ride has been saved and is being enjoyed! Unique color by the way! |

Re: Just bought first royal ride-70s
And now it's my turn, Welcome to the club!
I did a total rebuild on my royal ride. If it could be done, I did it. When you have nothing better to do, you could read about my build. Hit link in my signature line. It may give you some ideas. We are here to help. Golfcartman is right, the chassis on these things are club car. Some parts are easier to get than others. I put a different steering wheel on mine and wrapped the dash in a burlwood wrap. Tell us what you want to do and we can probably tell you how to do it. Welcome to the madness. |
