Default 2001 EZGO TXT Lake Gasser

Hey everybody... I just picked up an 01 EZGO and I'm in the process of adding a few accessories to it and found this forum. Great info and has already proved extremely helpful. I thought I'd start a thread to chronicle my build.

This is going to mainly be used down at the lake and the current theme I'm heading for is a Oklahoma State Orange / White / Black.

I'm hopefully picking up a new front cowl today to replace the busted one and then planning to venture into a paint job for it.

I've got a 4 week old new born so the updates will probably be a little slower than most but I'm hoping to have it finished up by Memorial Day.

I've got a Lift Kit, Wheels, Tires, HD Leaf Springs, Engine Tune Up Kit and a Windshield on their way.

I was able to get the rear cowling off after fighting with a rusted rear support bolt.

Made it half way through the lift kit install before I realized I ordered the wrong one. Argh! I was able to clean up some rust spots and paint the frame. The battery tray should be replaced but I don't think I'm going to be able to do it this time. The bracket that's in front of the battery holding the electronics is very rusted.

Also started the body work on the front cowl I picked up.

Cool Re: 2001 EZGO TXT Lake Gasser

Looking good. You should contact Gary Wiant he can do you a wrap for the cart. I just installed one of his wrapps and it looks great. First one I ever did.
Here is a link for it. You want paint one for his price I bet! Good luck with it and keep posting pictures. Congrats on the little one also!

It's crossed my mind to do a wrap on this instead of painting but I think I'm still leaning towards a paint job. I might mention the wrap idea to my brother. He has a club car that he's looking to freshen up.

Did you guys still do the body work or did your carts not need anything? My rear cowl is pretty beat up at and I'm in the process of patching it up already.

Did you do it yourself as well Sh_or_ty?

Wink Re: 2001 EZGO TXT Lake Gasser

All I did was wipe it down with Mineral spirits before I started. I installed a new front cowl that I took a razor blade to some scuff marks to smooth the edges down and wiped down with mineral spirits and covered.

A little update on the progress I've made. I've been able to finish installing the lift kit. The cart had a broken tie rod when I bought it and there was confusion on which tie rod to replace it with since I was installing the lift. Ended up getting the wrong one so now I have to order the jakes tie rod to finish up the front install.

I couldn't get the drivers side brake cable to reach after lifting so I thought I'd need to swap the brake backing plates. This didn't work because the cable bracket interfered with the blocks from the lift. Then I realized the cable was ran through a cradle near the battery. Popped it out of this and had plenty of length. Went ahead and cleaned up the brakes while they were dismantled. Slapped a little paint in the drums too.

One of my rear shock absorbers had bit a rock or something and bent the lower stem. I went ahead and replaced all four shocks absorbers with some from NAPA. Having those and the new HD leafs in the rear is a huge difference. The cart barely moves when I step into it now.

I was also able to cut backing boards for the seat and get the new cover installed in the backrest. Looks really sharp! Picked up a pneumatic stapler from harbor freight for about. $20 and that made a huge difference.

Ok enough blabbering here are some pics.

Update time! I've been able to put the seat bottom together with the new cover. The orange isn't as bright as I was hoping for but it'll have to do.

I also picked up some shock boots that I noticed in another thread on here. They were pretty cheap and you can never have enough orange. My friend fabricated a new electronics bracket for me and I replaced all of the mounting hardware with stainless. I made a new ground cable because the one that came out disintegrated the first time I pressed the pedal to start it up. After replacing that it fired up and I was able to take it for a test spin.

The only thing I have left to finish up is a little bit of body work on the rear cowl, paint them and install the new head and tail lights.

I'm heading to the lake this weekend and I'm kinda bummed I won't have this down there to run around on it.

I was able to get the taillights cut out and test fitted last night. I also did the same for the new headlights but I forgot to take pictures.

I'm hoping to get some paint on it this week so I can wrap this up for the Summer.
