I found my cheap upgrade!
HaPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!
A few years ago for my Birthday I purchased an EZGO.. She is still fun, stock controller and crap. cruises around at 21mph with 2 people. .. no complaints. except for the stock 36v bogging down with 3 or 4 people.. Been pricing out upgrades. my next step will be to try just a controller upgrade.. was also scanning for 48v carts.. We started our day planning a trip 2 hours north to see a guy who had a small GEM for sale that needed batteries the one with the "hydrologic breaks" was already sold. Before breakfast there was an ad on CL "Clubcar needs batteries, seat, and roof. no photo but it was in my town. I texted the number, asked does it have the controller, and motor? does it roll? The response was " Yes all the electronics are there. Yes but 2 tires might not hold air. He was asking a hundred, so we went and rented the trailer. there it was in the mud, under some car doors and parts in outside storage at a body shop. Guy said he was going to fix it, but could not get it running. It didnt look to bad when the stuff from around it was removed. without the seat it was pretty easy to see that no wires were cut, everything was connected, and looked dry. Filled up the tires and shoved her into the trailer. It wasnt until after she was in the driveway we saw the 48V stickers.. I have had 4 GEM car gel batteries sitting around.. Seemed logical to use them to test the new cart. The batteries had been sitting around for a few years and were at 11.6 each.. |

Re: I found my cheap upgrade!
Hooked up the wires and nothing.. Took a moment and remembered the key thing. there was none, but we tried a masterlock key. it Turned and a light on the dash lit up..
Still nothing on the pedal. when i finally put it in a gear it moved. It moved pretty well around the block a few times. had to remove the rear bed of the cart to make it through the gate. That rear bed was pretty rough to get off. Not sure whats next. Waiting for a full charge to see how it runs. |

Re: I found my cheap upgrade!
Thanks, I dont know, I will grab the numbers. there was no reason to look it up so far. I cant believe how great the body and frame are.The ezgo requires a bit of Rust treatment every year. I really had zero expectations I assumed I was buying a parts cart.
Funny hows quick Attitudes changed from Did you really buy that thing? to lets name it a few minutes later after she was driving it around the block. The board is awesome as usual, found great tips on shining up the body. not much on the immediate TO DO list. Add some metal to the battery box to fit 4 batteries securely. just 4 should be easy.. These batteries are rather large, my battery cables are short. Still not sure why some of the cables in the cart do not fit the battery terminals. the Charger+ and negative cable were smaller. Unless 8v terminals are smaller than the ones on these batteries. new battery gauge, only the low battery light works. it needs bigger tires. the suspension looks almost like it can be rigged with at kit.that bracket on the rear axle is tempting to use for something. . struts in the front. but A faster controller would be nice, throw some more amps at the motor..but , I have not had a run with a full charge yet. I dont expect much more on the top end, since it was a work cart. reverse could be why one of the tires it was wearing looked like a gocart slick. |

Re: I found my cheap upgrade!
Spent $12 at the tire guy on the corner.. moved a new tire to an old rim.. set all the tires to 19lbs. No more tires with screws for thread. No real wobble any more. it steers with 1 hand now, and seems to have a decent top speed..
4 wheel brakes are great stops on a dime. looked up the year 1996 I think. I think i found a wire harness for lights. havnt had much time for more than an hour of driving time before the alleys are to dark. but the pack voltage after an hour or so of driving is always at 50.1!!! Cupholders work... no beer was spilled on any of these drives. next step to paint the hood.. finish shining up the britework too. |

OBC what is this OBC thing....
Well they finally poured the cement for the broken sidewalk... and of course. its pouring rain now..
I managed to get much accomplished before this mandatory afternoon break. well first of all , found out the tires from the Ecar, that were on the lifted EZ-GO.. fit the carryall.. No all tires are up at 32psi. .no more wobbles.. .all the Zerks are full.. felt stupid buying one of those guns for 3 fittings. steering is mucho buttero very responsive. .. managed to cut the pieces for the new battery box. new aluminum bolted with some old lift spring bolts. Now the aux battery can be installed in the side wall. lights radio.. after that.. the hood is painted, safely drying on the porch.. last week drained all the glitter from the rear.. hopefully it was from the crappy rims, but its a concern.. but.. but. we have been running fast for long stretches.. no wobbles, no creaks, no grinding. .even at slooow speeds.. no sounds other than the click of a solenoid and the electric whine.must have put too much in, its leaking out the vent... well now after 4 hrs of on road top speed running through the neighborhoods. The pack sits at 49.9.. Prettty sure thats not great, but the battery's are not new and she still has plenty of torque and acceleration at 49.9. Hit the sides with the highspeed scotchpad.. wow.. cleaned all the crap away.. been wanting to use the charging port, but it is connected to some OBC thing. that component seems to be linked to the stock charger. Hopefully bypassing it so I can use the connector wont slow the cart down. The seats are firmly on the back, going to take the roof supports off next and make handles. the Suspension is pretty solid. Jumping on the back does nothing. |

Re: I found my cheap upgrade!
Ellis, your carryall is very clean.. That bed on the back is sweet. Wish I had those sides to work with for rear seating..
