Default "The Hot Setup" for the 2pg

Alright, so I think I've finally located the elusive 2pg engine that I need to drop into my Marathon. As usual, I have big plans and I want to make it as reliable and strong (i.e. speed and power) a setup as I can while I'm going. I tentatively plan to:

Fully rebuild the motor
Bore the jug 0.050 over and install OS piston and rings
Use the BV 24 carb and the 88 only exhaust setup
Run an open element filter so that I'll basically have a "cold air intake"
(I'm assuming the last step will require making the holes in the jets of the carb larger, but I have NO IDEA how much or how to do it, just need a little guidance there)

I also want to mill the head and port it, but that's where I have big questions. How much can I mill off the head and still run 90 octane non-ethanol fuel? I've read .015", but what do you guys who have done it think? Also, do I still use a head gasket if I mill the head? I've read no in some places, but my intuition says that yes, I'd want to. Lastly, how and how much do I port it? I'm assuming (big assumption, as I've never done this before) that I can only do the exhaust port, as the intake portion of the jug looks like it'd be near impossible to get to.

Thanks for any help in advance!

He has spent alot of time getting his motor/clutching set up. It will out-run alot of carts now. He took a different route than what you posted. I have been trying to get him to start a build thread.

I'm all for doing whatever's been proven to work! I'm hoping he replies here or in a PM, I'd love to see what he's done and apply his knowledge to what I'm doing. I had this crazy notion along with all the stuff I listed, that if I could get a 4 stroke transaxle and bolt it in, then fab a motor mount that would hold the 2pg so that the clutch pointed off to the side, I could then advance the timing and gain the monstrous power that folks say these motors would produce if they could have the timing advanced. Probably crazy for a number of reasons, but it was a thought...

They won't make "monstrous power", but you'll see an improvement if you advance the timing.

I was exaggerating when I said that, I should've used quotes myself. Of course, when you run a Vanny with a blower most other power improvements probably seem kinda small.

The key with the 2pg and 3pg is that all the small improvements add up to significant gains. I think Morgan44 is turning a little over 5000rpm with his setup. The 3pg will turn much faster than that.
