The Latest Workhorse Build ...
Picked up another Workhorse 1200 this summer with a blown motor and some damage to the metal body panels ... After finding out that NEW panels from EZGO were going to tip the scales at about $700 a set, I started looking for another idea - and came up with this:
A local fab shop where a good buddy works did the DP panels for me, the total cost of the .063 along with the fabrication, etc came in at around half the cost of basic new panels from the factory, so I was pretty happy - lighter, FAR more rigid, and a pretty cool industrial look (You definitely don't miss THIS cart in the headlights at night, LOL) ... I made some inserts for the cowl lowers as well as some DP taillight inserts with LED's to tie it all together, DP engine bay cover, etc - saved a ton and ended up with what I really think is a unique look. Other mods along the way were a brand new CT Rebuilds 373cc Performance motor, shaved head, timing advance, etc, the driven clutch was rebuilt, obviously a lift and some new shoes, some stuff that was rough was replaced like the cowl lowers, brushguard, etc ... at this point I'm torn on seats, I have a black set which actually look good but I was planning on putting either a roll cage or canopy on the cart, so until I figure which way I'm going (or if I'm even keeping this one) that decision is on hold - if I do the top it'll be tan (and I hate the lack of durability with painted/bedlined/plasti-dipped tops) so in that case the seats will stay (plus if I keep it it'll be another "Work Truck" here at the casa so no real need for fancy seats) ... Still thinking about fabbing up some inserts for the dump box out of DP, I have 2 extra 18X48 sheets - these are the projects that never end, LOL. I installed some LED "Courtesy lights" under the dash as well as in the gloveboxes too - VERY handy for those long night rides, finding stuff in the glovebox, etc I have a huge chrome Harley Logo Decal that I'm going to put on the cowl once I finish buffing it out, the paint has a silver flake in it so that should help brighten up the front of the cart a bit without being TOO much chrome. Anyone have any suggestions as to something I may have missed? |

Re: The Latest Workhorse Build ...
OH - for those who might be afraid to see a "Diamond in the Rough" - here's what she looked like when I dragged her home - this cart had obviously seen some better days, despite only having 675hrs on it ... Literally not a SPOT of rust anywhere on the frame, but the whole cart inside and underneath was coated with about 1/4" of oil residue and funk from whatever engine issues it obviously had for some time prior to locking up. Never *did* figure out why there was a cage on it though, as the normal spots for mounting a ball-picker weren't touched or marked up in any way, hmmm ???!??!??!

Re: The Latest Workhorse Build ...
Sure looks like it, huh? I still can't figure this one out, frame, axles, etc straight as an arrow, clutches impeccable, not a spot of rust anywhere on the chassis, barely any wear on the floor mat, pedals, etc - but it looked like it was picked up and chewed on by a Tyrannasaurus, the brushguard missing, dents in both sides, one light hanging one in a box ... Out of several WH's I redid this year though I can honestly say when it came down to the nitty gritty this one was probably the nicest one of all, cosmetics were nonexistent but no surprises anywhere else so overall I'm quite happy with it :)
