VC 460 dies
 

I have a Yamaha G14 that I installed a VC460 in a two summers back. It will run fine getting me to the golf course, but on the way home, it will start losing power, and finally stall. After sitting for about five minutes it will start but stall out again after a few hundred yards. Any ideas what is happening?

#1 candidate would be the fuel pump. These are VERY simple engines with the magneto ignition system and basic carb. The fuel delivery itself is a little complicated to get balanced. If not right the fuel bowl bleeds excess fuel at idle or the engine dies from a lean mixture a higher rpms. I learned the hard way that running lean will result in blown head gaskets. A first check however would be dropping the carb bowl looking for varnish or other debris.

:iagree: Some have routed a return line to bleed excess fuel back to the tank, but this doesn't help if it's running out of fuel, only too much fuel. But fuel delivery is sometimes tricky depending on what type of tank pickup you have, and also how much fuel line you are running from the tank to the pump and pump to carb. I've found the bottom pickup tanks are best so gravity can help deliver fuel to the pump. The shorter your fuel line is the better.
