Vanguard 16 horse carb questions
 

I have looked up and down on the internets and can not seem to find what I am looking for . Where can I find a jet kit for this carb or if anyone knows what style jets will work. I don’t know if there is such a thing I use a torch tip cleaner and ream them to the next size

I already reamed it out and apparently I went to big . It bogged out at any rpms over idle I have since soldered it up and re drilled it. It isgoing good now but I still want to find a selection of jets to try

I think I found the factory jet .

Soldered it? Man I wouldn't do that. The solder can come loose and end up in your engine and cause damage. Plus if you drilled it out you are not getting the correct atomization of the fuel. It's not just the size of the hole, but also the shape of it. It might be running, but not the way it was designed.

You're best bet is to order the factory part. Buy only Briggs and Stratton brand parts from an authorized dealer. Otherwise you might not get the correct part or you'll get a cheap china made knockoff that may or may not work.

I already ordered a new jet . Don't worry about factory or knock off jets because the only jets I could even locate are all factory briggs. I am still not 100%sure I found the right jet but we will see in a few days . The solder was just to run while I tracked down a noise that I believe is the comet 780. I did not run it much.

Solder works, u just put it in the upstream side of the jet, not downstream side.
We did that on a 420 and never an issue, it’ll only fall into the bowl if it ever comes loose.
Does a jet hole really matter that much? With an adjustable jet, u get a different shape with the jet and taper of the needle that restricts the fuel amount.

It depends who you ask lol. Plenty of people solder and drill jets out. Think about this, is solder really designed to be in contact with gasoline? Why do they make jets out of brass with the shape they have? Just saying it's not the correct way. Fuel atomization is not really something most people are well versed in. Personally, I'm not an engineer who designs carburetors, but I'm pretty sure soldering and drilling does not yield the same atomization as the proper jets. And an adjustable jet is just that, not an "adjustable soldered up hole".:lhmo:
