Ezgo Freedom Parking Brake Issues After Brake Job

First I know there are loads of threads about brakes and I have looked thru plenty. I have an older Ezgo Freedom cart about 1999 model. It was a junker that was rebuilt. I just installed new brake pads which work great after adjusting. Problem is too begin with the pedal was very sensitive and the parking brake would not set. I loosened the spherical nut to a point where the cables seem loose. The parking brake will lock sometimes but will also kick off on their on. I have done numerous Club Car Precedents but this is my first issue like this on an Ezgo. Can someone tell me how to adjust these properly.

Let me add that the pedal seems to have the correct amount of free pedal after loosening the cables and the brakes work great. Just an inconsistent hill brake.

You may be dealing with a worn cog (brake catch mechanism). Observer the mechanical catch action under the floor while pressing the pedal by hand from above. (a helper may be needed) There are some easy fixes, if the cog is worn you can file a deeper notch. If the tooth is worn you can remove it and rotate it 180º to a fresh side.
Have a look. Something along these lines should fix your problem.

I had this identical issue and I just filed the notch so that it was nice and sharp.....haven't had a issue since.

Thanks guys, JohnnieB thanks for the pdf but I had that already. I will do both, flip the plate and file the tooth tomorrow and I believe that will do it. You guys are great!
