Club Car DS with a Jakes long travel kit?

Is any one else having a problem with the lower shock eyes slipping off the rubber bushing? Mine keep slipping off and the lower eye ends up pounding agaist the lower A-arm every tine I hit a bump.

I just sent Jakes an e-mail asking them about it but I was wondering if its a common problem.

Yes, exactly what you described. I would have to say those shocks are my only (other than price fo course) complaint with the Jakes suspension. I would really like to just replace them with something else but I'm already overinvested in the front end of the cart. Anxious to see what you come up with.

A representative from Jakes just called me about this issue. He said they are aware of the problem with these shocks. They said this happens when the shocks are used on an off-road cart. They designed the system with price in mind and he said they used a "cheap" shock to keep the package affordable! The only fix they know of is to put washers on both ends of the shock eye and that will help. He did say that if that does not fix the problem that they can upgrade to a higher quality shock for an additional $400. Needless to say I am NOT IMPRESSED!!!! Go the their website and this is the statement they make: "no need to worry about quality when you’re dealing with the manufacturer of the best golf cart lift kits on the market".....COMPLETE BS!!!!! I will not recommend this product to anyone building a cart.

Thank you for the heads up. I'm really surprised to read this. Where the heck else would you take a long travel cart but off road. :?

Yup, He said if they used "good" shocks the kit would cost $1400 and no one would buy it. Instead the use $hitty shocks that fail after a month of use and offer you a $400 upgrade so you can use their kit. I will most likely look on Ebay for a good set of used snowmobile front shocks as replacements.

On a good note I will give them credit for actually picking up the phone and calling me with this info...which did suprise me.

Curious what a good donor snowmobile would be.

I'm thinking that shocks off of a late model Polaris Edge chassis could be made to work on a Jakes lift. You might have to figure out your own mounting hardware but they should work. I would look for something valved on the softer side since a cart does not weigh much.

I've looked into that a little too. Any suggestions on that front?
