Cushman Combo 1
New Member and first thread. I wanted to start up a thread around the Cushman Combo 1 I just rescued from Minnesota. Need to preface that I don't have experience restoring. Cars or carts. So, this will be a huge learning curve for me. That means I'll need all the help I can get.
I'm certain that this won't be a restore to the original cart. I do want to hang on to the vintage look and feel, but with updates that make really make it sing, like teak flooring perhaps? I do know that I want to fully restore, so I will be completely stripping it down and building it back up using as many original parts possible. There is no engine or batteries. I'm under the assumption that a newer motor can be engineered to work on this cart in place of the original. If not, someone please let me know. New paint and all. I look forward to advice and technical support from everyone so let me thank you now. Here's to saving this piece of history..sorta. Here are a few pics. Once I get it off the trailer and on a lift, I'll post more pictures. Let us begin. |

Re: Cushman Combo 1
Good morning BGW,
Here's an update where I am with the cush. I've stripped it down. Given it a sand and a rust stopping primer paint coat to prevent any new rust. More to come soon. |

Re: Cushman Combo 1
@lockman1 Thank you!
Bought this from a guy just outside of Austin. I'm going to use it for the parts that are missing from my combo. It's a `73, but I'm guessing that they will work for this cart too? Let me know if my assumption is wrong. It's worth a shot. |

Re: Cushman Combo 1
Alright...so the combo had very little in the way of guts when I bought. If you see the picture of the strip down, well that was all body. There wasn't anything else under the seats. Did a bunch of part transferring from the 3 wheel cart. Hooked up my t-105s and guess what, it worked.
Ordered some new parts including solenoid, reverse buzzer ignition since the wheels just spin with out it and new battery cables. Might have to get a new micro switch, but since I really don't know what's going on with the electrical we will see...help anyone? |

Re: Cushman Combo 1
As the electrical questions go unanswered, I move forward with other aspects of the salvation. Have to paint fast and furious. The wife is over my new passion already. Bondo and fiberglass work was my first time and learned a bunch. Like, don't go heavy cause sandings a bitch. Hand primed and painted.

Still going strong. Some new electrical including an onboard charger, wires, solenoid and buzzer. Seats are at the shop. Figuring it out as I go....

Re: Cushman Combo 1
Thanks nobuckbuild. Didn't know they made the combo in gas, too. $300 is a great deal if it still ran.
