Sears Lectracar Diplomat II

This is my first post and showing my cart as it looked 7-3-11. I began taking it apart 3 weeks ago and now its in primer and gold paint with gold marine vinyl seats. I would like to find a copy of manuals if any members may know where to find them. This is a 36 volt cart and I am thinking of getting rid of 3 of the 6 volt batteries and going with less weight by using 3 - 12 volt batteries instead. The cart will only be used for lite usage around the yard and neighborhood. I took the rear bag rack off and kept hand rails only. I think the cart has a decent looking rear to the body but im wanting to add a roof and front fender wheel cover ect. tha might look good on this cart. So in the pics im listing are how I brought it home in orange. Then the pics from 7-3-11 and the last pic of how I want a roof and front fender to look on the cart. Please let me know what you think or if you have any ideas that might change my mind in any way. The fiberglass roof would have a oval type back window and side opera windows with a front plexaglass windshield. Thanks Wig.........

Madoc1- Yes the pedal is power on top and brake stepping down. It has a lever under the floor that is hooked to a brake cable much like a bike and it runs to the motor and it is set up like a brake drum with shoes inside. I took the drum off and the shoes looked good yet and I sand paper cleaned the drum. It works like new and I cant wait to see how it works with full speed stopping. Im posting a few more pics and you can see how the drum looks on the front of the Baldor motor.

I have a question for anyone that knows how to identify the year of this cart or the motor since im thinking it is a 1961. On the motor is the tag with the specs and can anyone confirm if this is a 1961 motor? and would this be close to the make year of the cart? Thanks Wig...

I was watching the History Channel today on Presidents and seen a short clip of Eisenhower on a cart that I swear was a Lectracar Diplomat and I did a quick search and found that it was. Here is a link to the video and its a couple shots in the first 45 seconds.

Make sure you post more pictures after you install the roof. I like the roof design and would like to see it on the cart.

Ok I have a tech question now that the batteries are in and all connections and terminals are cleaned ect. I can leave the passenger seat off so I can look in at the contacts that slide forward when I give the pedal full power. I am seeing a arc in the 2nd contact almost like a welding look which dont look right. Why is that happening? I cleaned all oil grease ect around the area and wire brushed and sand papered all these parts so to get good contact. I checked to see if anything was loose but all bolts are tight and clean. You can see in the picture im posting how the parts were clean but now have burn dark areas where this arc takes place. I put a white arrow at the area in question. Maybe this will give someone a good idea of what problem I am having. Thanks in advance for any advice or fix. Wig...........

First, nice resto job

Now for the "arcing" situation. If the picture isn't lying, the contact in question is not "flat" anymore. Useually the "moving/wiper arm" contact will be a softer material than the stationary contacts. Looks like the moving contact is "pitted/damaged" like the stationary contact and they need to be replaced. Sometimes you can "flip" them over, but they must be flat and even, so the moving contact can glide over them smoothley. Once you get them sorted out...alittle "dyelectric" grease really helps in the smoothness. Or you could upgrade to a controller/potbox speed control system. Good luck
