Address the gears?
'71 Club Car Caroche running 36 volts at this time.........Heard I should address the gear ratio before I mess with the motor and the batteries for more speed? Is that right? Not pulling hills here so its all street cruising.

Re: Address the gears?
Somebody makes a gear selection for that thing? I wasn't sure they still made batteries for that cart?

Re: Address the gears?
How fast do you want to go? At 10 to 12 mph stock (propably close to 10 with that stock set up), even 15 mph would seem fast. Are you still running the stock solenoids/micro switch set up? The stock motor probably could handle the 48 volts for cruising, but i'd take it apart, clean it, install new brushes (if you can get them) and make shure all the studs are tight and the insulators are good. Dought they make high speed gears for that transaxle (like Scottyb said). Anything is possible, if you want it bad enough. Good luck on whatever you decide PS, there are companies that can rebuild motors for higher speed's, I use to use "Hi-Tourque" till they were bought out by a giant.

Re: Address the gears?
Hey Smallblock, thanks for the tips. As far as I can tell everything about this old.cart is stock. From the way it looks not a thing has changed "under the hood" but I haven't yet decided where to start. All I know is my family wants to go "faster" and i can't keep up with the neighbor and his newer club car with that speedy link. Crap I need all the advise I can get!

Re: Address the gears?
I don't know how much trouble it would be to swap the whole rear end out for a newer one but I would think a newer Club car rear end would bolt right in. Just a guess then your selection goes way up.
Now for putting in a set of new high speed gears there is a trade off. The cart want have any take off but it will run faster. I for one don't see the gear swap for your cart being the best choice for a street cart. I would do the motor up grade and think about the above first. if that isn't enough speed then the battery up grade, then maybe a controller upgrade. My 2 cents worth anyway. |
