Default 1965ish Cushman Deluxe Golfster

Finally getting around to restoring my Cushman. My plan is to just use it to cruise around the neighborhood in the evenings. I want to do it up like a woodie wagon and use it to cruise around handing out Popsicles or ice cream to neighborhood kids. I haven't had much luck finding info online for these so I'm hoping someone here may have some leads. :)

The codes on the tag are: 732-880313

I picked the cart up from a guy who couldn't get it running for $300. Brought it home and found it had a stuck solenoid. Got it free and have been cruising it a bit. Not a bad little cart but it needs some love to get it into shape. Things I know it's going to need:

- missing the seat and the "bumper" up front to keep it from tipping
- new batteries
- new cables
- new solenoid (yep - it died)
- possibly new f/r controller (major pitting)
- the copper contacts on the wiper are ok - but the high speed contact seems to be lower than the rest.
- the bearing stuff for the front fork is in rough shape.
- battery trays need some welding
- charger plug (on the cart) is cracked up but functional

I've restored cars but this is my first cart. Looking forward to some fun! Here are a few pics:

Looks in pretty fair shape! It would be a good idea to pull your steering spindle out and check it very carefully for cracks where the bottom bearing is. The early models had a problem with these breaking and offered a thicker replacement. You'll probably be putting new bearings and seals in it anyway!

Sorry, I can't really help you there. Google will be your best friend for that! Check the search here first, then give " vintage golf carts " a google search. It may take a few, but I think you'll find what you're looking for!
Years ago a golf course near me had 3 Cushman trucksters for sale. I wasn't into carts at the time or I would have surely bought them. They ended up selling them for scrap! Oh, if I only knew then what I know now!!!

I do have some accelerator stationary contacts and a moving contact. The f/r switch uses the later style Taylor-dunn fingers and arms. Best place I could find is a site sonsor www.easycustoms.com part #785-(71-040-5 and part# 786 (71-040-60) at very competative prices. Take a look. Good luck Dave

Thanks Dave! The site doesn't come up for me but I'll google the part numbers and see what I can find. I am almost done with the box. Man this thing took a lot more work than I expected.

- I made the sides 20" tall vs the original 12" Gives me a nice lowered look.
- I lengthened the box by 16". I did it just for looks so it would be long and hot rod looking. The foot rest is just a nice bonus.
- In order to be able raise the box and access the batteries and such, the added 16" section has to be removable. I'm not thrilled with brackets on the bottom but haven't come with a better solution yet. I can't mount anything inside the bottom joint because of wheel clearance when opening the top.
- A little more trim and stain and I'm on to the front!
