Default Cushman GC400 Resto, need parts and advice

Hello all,

I'm in the process of restoring a Cushman GC400. Golf carts are new to me and I purchased the cart to shuttle my wife and daughter around at horse shows. I appear to have purchased a rather engineered example as I have been getting a quick education on this particular cart.

I got the cart disassembled and rough sanded this week. In the next couple of weeks I'll finish sanding and paint it followed by a new electrical system and then mechanicals.

The rear suspension had 3 shock absorbers, how was I supposed to know that it was only supposed to have one! The body mounts (as I've discovered they're called - they look more like motor mounts to me) are completely shot and I had to order 2 new one's today for half of what I payed for the cart.

It has a Club Car Kawasaki engine that runs great but is a little hard to start. It does not have the original air box and since the carb has no choke for starting I assume that a choke must have been incorporated into the original air box. Does anyone have an air box for one of these?

Also, it has 3 different types of tires on the wheels. As I've learned these are a 3 3/4 inch bolt pattern. Are there other wheels that will fit or should I plan on new tires and sandblast and repaint the wheels? I'd love a couple of rusty moon hubcaps for the rear wheels....I plan on painting the caps the turquoise color that I paint the body (to match our 1972 Newell Coach)

I can't find a serial number anywhere on the cart so I don't know what year it is.

Any tips or part leads would be appreciated! I'd love to trade that club car Kawasaki for an original Kohler if someone is interested.

I'm also looking for a suitable fuel tank, as you can see in the pictures the one installed is very small.

Thanks,

Bob

Cart is sanded, painted the underside and inside with undercoating. Cart went to the paint shop on Monday and will be painted to match the bus. I've repainted the shrouds on the engine and will be building a new electrical system when I get it back from the paint shop.

Looking good. I like the color you have chosen. I have a 1967 Dodge Travco and a 1971 Harley Davidson cart that are going to be painted Banner Green and White (a similar color combination to your rig).

Got the cart back from the paint shop today. Boy does she shine!

Now all I've got to do is build an electrical system, new deck, new seats, install engine, find a fuel tank....

Makin' progress. Got a fuel tank from a local mower shop for 10 bucks! Deck is varnished, carpeted and done. Electrical system is done....with headlights, tail lights, horns, engine hour meter and voltmeter.

We've got the seats to get back from the upholstery shop, the instrument panel to get back from the paint shop and a few loose ends and we'll be fully up and running.

That crappy muffler will be just about the last thing left from the previous owner but a club car exhaust won't fit in this cart. Any suggestions!!!???

Thanks,

Bob

[QUOTE=I love the roof, is that stock or did you make it ?

Ken,

The roof came with the cart when I got it in June and I got very little information on the cart's past. It's got to be pretty old since the vinyl is stiff and cracking in places. I guess it could be 40 years old, either way it's in fair condition and I'll probably replace it in the next year or two but is presentable enough for now.

Looking through my GC-400/300 parts book, it appears that the original fabric roofs had tassels instead of scallops along the edges, so maybe it's a 20 year old replacement???

How's the 300 coming along? Post a picture or two if you've got them...I'd love to see it.

Thanks,

Bob
