Default Another Air Ride Build - 05 TXT

All stripped down, pressure washed and ready for some work. Plans are to add Monroe Air shocks front and rear. Stock green body will get prepped for paint this weekend. Will probably order my shocks later this week. Just taking a look at how I plan to fab the shock mounts and setting the stock ride height. I will keep pictures posted as I progress.

So I flipped the front springs over today to see where that would put the ride height. It dropped a couple of inches but now the bottom of the shock stud is sitting on the steering box. Obviously it can't stay that way but I'm not sure how this will be affected once the new shocks are put on and the mounts are cut down. Are you guys relocating the shock mounts to avoid the steering box?

What else can be done to go lower than just flipping the springs? I thought about building a set of blocks for the front similar to the rear but it seems like that would interfere with the tie rod running under the axle. I am running a 12" wheel with a 205x30-12 tire so from what I'm reading I should be able to get this thing down to a pretty low baseline height.

I can generally build just about anything. I just don't have the engineering mind or the visual to experiment. Any suggestions you guys have is much appreciated. Thanks!

Why not just use a lowering axle kit?

I did look at those. Like always just trying to see if it could be done a little cheaper. I may end up going that route just so that everything works correctly. I found another one here for less than half the price. This should be the same thing I would think.

that lowering axle would be the way to go. if your welding skills are up to par you could build one out of what you have now. just section the ends upward and build spacers for the steering rack. that would also give you the opportunity to narrow it slightly to tuck the front wheels inward to help with the offset of the wheels you run.

I am going to give it a go at cutting this one up. It may take me a little time but I'll get it right. I figure if I'm going to buy a new axle anyway - Why not try making this one work first. Thanks man.

Brown truck dropped off my shocks yesterday Hopefully get some fab work in this weekend. Going to flip the front springs back over and remove 1 leaf. Plan on measuring up the front axle and getting it ready to be cut.

Yep, just did it yesterday. Probably going to cut the axle down tomorrow or tuesday. I can't remember, did you have the older style steering? I think I'm going to have to flip the shock mounts around to stay out of the way of the steering box that bolts on top of the axle. Then I have the tie rod that connects both spindles on the bottom that I may have to relocate as well.

What are your thoughts on this? As well as anyone else who wants to chime in. I'm thinking of cutting the axle off flush at the weld. Taking a little length out so the wheels will tuck, then welding a piece of longer plate back in and dropping the axle down and re-welding it. Here's my cartoon drawing.
