Default mandatory noise beepers coming to golf carts?

Looks like NHTSA just passed a rule that all electric cars AND LSV's must have noise makers when traveling under 20mph. In cars you may not hear it much inside with windows up, however, it could be very annoying to constantly listen to a noise maker while driving a cart around.

I haven't been able to find much info regardibg what the noise will sound like, but I'm hoping it's not too annoying. I live on a 15 mph street and I'm not looking forward to hearing endless noise makers as electric vehicles gain popularity.

I understand this is to protect pedestrians and the blind, however, there may be better tech solutions to this.

Here is some more info about the noise makers. No more near silent LSV's. Hopefully it won't be annoying.

Well, the rule does say "new, after Sept. 2019" so we might be grandfathered.

I was disappointed with their sound specs. I had visions of sounding like the Good Humor man and seeing all the disappointed kids running out to the street.

If I have to add a noise maker to my cart to make it legal it will be in the form of an internal combustion engine... Adding a noise maker defeats the purpose of why I bought and like my electric cart ---- Silence!!! I don't even want a radio on mine...

If I had to put a noisemaker on my cart I would find the idiot that thought this up, tie him to cart and drag him behind. That will make noise.

I like what car and driver said, "Meanwhile, think about all the injuries we’d prevent (at no additional cost to automakers) if sighted people took out their earbuds and paid attention while walking.", this seems to be much more of a problem than blind people not being able to hear. I can't tell you how many times someone with earbuds walked straight into me when not paying attention, in fact, they usually walk around like they are drunk. I would imagine that blind people will normally not be alone while walking in traffic, how would they know when the cross walk signal turns from red to white, and why would they be crossing streets without being able to see?

Read the article. What a bunch of crap. Now the government says: 1) My Harley is too loud. 2) My golf cart (LSV) is too quiet.

What did these studies cost? How much will it cost the consumer to comply? What will it cost the government to implement this program?

At the same time we don't have money to fix roads, bridges, and schools that are falling apart. This is ridiculous.
