Default Alabama LSV laws

Does anyone know how to get a LSV registered in Alabama, if it is even possible. Any information anyone has would be great.

Alabama just got their first street legal LSV. It was one of those timerline jobs that come already set up for the street. The man lives in Guntersville. I have been trying find ut more info on this subject myself but time does not seem to permit me to right now. I do know that you will have to have all the "safety" devices. If I find out more I will let you know, I have a big interest in trying to get this done.

Where is Leighton?

I am a Columbia dealer and have two of those Summit NEV's so they are set up for the street already. Just trying to find out if anyone else has managed to get any registered. Leighton is about 10 miles east of the Muscle Shoals area.

I am in Guntersville and I am trying to tackle this same issue. The girls at the DMV are of no help. They have no rules for a LSV so I am going the built from parts route. I have contacted Club Car and awaiting their responce to getting a CMSO which is required to get the title. If you have info please share it so I am not spinning my wheels down the wrong path.

I'm not sure what the right path is on that, good luck though.

Have any of you had any luck finding out how to get your cart registered in Alabama? is a manufacturer's certificate of origin required and how is one obtained?

I am in the process of outfitting my cart with all the necessary safety features and am now starting to research getting it registered and tagged.

Here is a helpful link to LSV laws by state. No info on how to register the vehicle but it does talk about saftey features and following traffic rules.

http://www.quovis.com/regulations.htm

"ALABAMA
Low speed vehicles are treated in the same manner as other motor vehicles. Alabama has for decades required that vehicles, including electric golf carts, operating on public streets and highways be titled, registered and insured."

I interpret Alabama to have the best LSV law, once the golf cart is made street legal it must be "treated in the same manner as other motor vehicles"...ie maintain the posted speed limit on all roads including highways.

That is how it should be. In other states the law is dangerous. If you have a golf cart driving on a 35 mph road, they still restrict you to not go over 25 mph. Can you imagine other cars and trucks passing you on a busy 2 lane road?

You mean you have to have title, insurance and registration here??
I just put on a paper dealer tag on it for a year or two and then sell the car!

I know several people that do that. The good part about this deal is that they never get caught. I pulled my 5x8 trailer for the first time in about 4 years and got pulled over 3 miles from my house for having no tag. Go figure.
