Default Ausco rear brake squeak

I installed the rear ausco disc brakes about 3 months ago and after the first month they started squeaking. I thought it might go away as they broke in more since I usually pretty much coast to stops and only use the brakes for the last 10 feet or so. Well it hasn’t gone away, and it’s driving me nuts.

Since they don’t have a traditional car type caliper I’m not sure if spraying the back of the pads with disc brake quiet will do anything. Anyone else have an issue with their ausco brakes squealing? If so, how did you shut them up?

My guess is that one end or the other of one or both of the calipers are less than the .003 -.005" running clearance called for in the instructions, causing the dragging noise

On the four sets I have installed, 2 on EZGO TXT and 2 on Precedent, they required that the free play clearance of the pads of .003' - .005" be the same across the pad. This is stated in the install instructions. I have found that each car I installed on needs to be adjusted slightly. This requires time and patience replacing and/or adding shims at either end of the caliper mounting point, to get the spacing equal. I had extra shims to work with in the kits I have received and installed. Once that is accomplished, I have had no more brake noise. And the brakes are smoother and less grabby.

Scotty has a great install Sticky on the Ausco brakes.

I agree that they can be installed quickly in the hour or hour and a half as Scotty said, but if they end up with a squeak, another hour or so and patience may be needed.

As always, Pingeye was correct. Thank you sir.

I added washers to the outer bolts on the plate side of the sleeve and the squeaking under braking went away. I also put a little caliper grease on all of the sleeves that the pads and caliper mount slide on as added insurance. I still need to tweak the pedal adjustment but at least it doesn’t scream every time I hit the brakes!!! It was so embarrassing.

So would you recommend installing them and driving around a bit before adjusting, or could you do it while the tires are off.

Looking back, I should have done the washers when first installed. Originally the outer pad touched the rotor ever so slightly. I wouldn’t consider it “dragging”, but it was enough to piss them off apparently. With the washer in place, you can spin the rotor and you don’t hear the pads touching the rotor at all.

But to specifically answer your question, I would do it right off the bat if you hear the pad touching when first installed before putting the tires back on. Why take them off a second time...

Are the spacers you mention made for the Ausco brakes or are you using what ever washer fits. If it is an Ausco spacer where do you get them? The chirp chirp chirp is driving me nuts too! I adjusted the brakes and that made it worse.

I used 5/16” washers I had laying around.

I'm having the same problem after having the brakes on for a couple of months. Would you mind spelling out for me where you put the shims? A picture would be great if you have one.

Would it be better to try adjusting the equalizer plate first before adding shims?
