2000 Club Car DS lowrider

So the bug has bitten. Our 2000 DS lited cart is done, minus paint, and dress up goodies, and a radio... OK, OK, they are NEVER done..

Anyway, i picked up a almost bare 00 DS frame, and gas tank. Got a colum and wheel, but that's about it. Total spent $100.

Then, I found a rear tub, some wheels and tires, pipe, clutch, a rotted, but there seat, some roof and windshield pieces..etc.. I am up to $200.

Front plastic, in nice shape $20.

My plan is to do an airbagged buggy. I have some experience with air and hydraulics, I own 2 lowrider cars. One on each type of suspension.

Question now, is how much flex does a stock rear end have? If I use a stock setup, with trailing arms, I will have 4-wheel ride height control. If I go ATV rear end/ bike engine, I will have independent front, but a solid rear.

I don't want to rip the rear end out, but would love to be able to power-3-wheel this thing. Any ideas?

Looking forward to seeing your progress!!! I liked your suggestion on the SCBA tanks. It’s an interesting idea. I’m subscribed and waiting on more(with pics).

I'll go grab a few pictures in a couple minutes. Right now, it's just a pile of junk... That should start changing soon...

I think if I go with an 8-solenoid-valve system, that would be best. That way, I can do 10 switches. The cart will have front, back, side to side, pancake, see-saw, and left+right 3 wheel (will a cart 3 wheel? I've seen one on youtube, on hydros that did, but on air, I don't know).. plus each wheel will be controllable separately. Limiting straps so I don't break anything. This is probably not going to work exactly how I am hoping, but we'll see.

edit: I was just looking at the lifted cart's setup, and think this will work. The rear end seems to twist enough, that it would lift a front wheel as long as I can get it to stay locked up... The air shocks are a different animal than I am used to, but this might work..

After a bit of experimenting, I don't think this is going to work out very well. Seen a few more videos, and while it looks kinda cool... there isn't really enough room to do what I want. And with the engine being mounted how it is, I can see that whole mount being ripped out if it 3 wheels like a car... So, this one will probably be another lifted cart I guess. Living where we do, it would be a lot more useful anyway.

Sorry about your struggle Smelt I really wanted to see a cart 3 wheel! But on a side note. I love that Caddy!

I honestly don't think it would be bad at all to do, just would end up broken really soon. I had my buddy crank up one corner of a parts machine we have, really slow, while I walked around and looked at what was happening... On the cars, we would plate the whole frame with 5/16", or 1/4" plate, to reinforce it from the bending stress. Cant really do that here, with the aluminum frame. No tig machine, and I don't want to pay someone to plate up the frame, and then have it not work... The amount of force the hydraulics can put out is a lot more than it would take to rip the x-members out of this thing.

There IS a video on youtube of a lowrider cart, doing 3 wheels, with wire wheels on it. I doubt it lasted too long, unless it was a steel frame..

That poor Cadillac has been sitting since I hurt my back... we'll get it out someday again.. The 425 still fires right up and rumbles... That thing is an animal, for what it is...
