Default What kind of Cart, is 420cc enough?

Starting body work on my first cart project. I doubt the frame is stock, but currently have a new predator 420 in there. I live on a course and carts are allowed on residential streets near by so I want to use this thing to go to the store and errands. Right now top speed is maybe 10-15 mph but I want to get her up to 25 in a straight line. Also trying to get more ground clearance for the driven clutch. Any ideas or suggestions would be super helpful.

That looks like a 82 harley or later columbia cart. I wonder how they got the belt to align with the 30+ degree clocked diff. If it has the original diff some how aligned the gearing is for a 2 stroke rpm range where 6000 rpms is 20 mph or so with stock tires. You might want to look at my 82 HD build in the sled section to see if your frame is layed out that way.

I finished body and paint, I値l take some pictures with the body off to better see the axle when I知 back at the shop tomorrow. I think eventually I might put in a 2 speed rear axle but for now I think I値l just do a comet for reverse. I知 only allowed to spend $500 more......for now. Haha. Is it possible to put on a smaller diameter driven clutch? I知 worried about clearance. I知 already going to put a little taller tires on but thought that might increase speed as well.

I have 20 X 8 's on the rear of mine so they will clear the body and frame without a lift. 22 X 8's might or might not clear. In front have not gone beyond the 18 X 8 stockers.

I was thinking I might try 22 in the rear. Going to weld a frame for a new rear cover as soon as I know exactly where the exhaust will come out with the standard upgrade kit. Should add a couple more hp. Super fun project. Options are unlimited. Hard not to go a little overboard.

Can't wait for pics on how this swap was done. Just remember anything you add to the engine must be mounted to the cradle and not the frame.

Looks like the rear axle is upside down

If your Comet 40 series driven is outboard like yours, you need to use the yellow spring. The red spring is for inboard.
