how to connect to air shocks
Hey everone. I have been searching and searching on here about air shocks. I have a 97 ezgo dcs which I have modified with air shocks on all 4 corners. I used the small air line and connections that came with the air shocks and have been filling them manually with my garage compressor. I want to upgrade to an onboard system. I just want to add a tank, manual air valves and 1/4" tubing. My question is how would I go about connecting the 1/4" tubing to the air shock? Right now it take a small (1/16") tubing and o-rings with a compression sleeve. I see on here that alot of you guys are running air shocks with tanks and valve but not sure how you connected the larger hose to the shocks. Any help would be appreciated!!!

Re: how to connect to air shocks
I drilled the shock and threaded cap("compression sleeve") to 3/16 to accept my air lines.
With the shocks removed, fully extend the shock so you don't drill through the bag, drill straight into the existing hole being careful not to go all the way through. Try not to get any metal shavings inside the bag, I did this by drilling the shock on its side so gravity doesn't make the shavings drop inside, as the drill bit gets deeper I would stop and quickly compress the shock so the blast of air pushes out the shavings then clean with a q-tip and extend the shock again and continue drilling(I did this several times on each shock). Do the same with the sleeve. Let me know if this makes any sense:) |

Re: how to connect to air shocks
How did you seal the air line to shock after drilling the whole bigger? What type of fitting did you use?

Re: how to connect to air shocks
I used the same o-ring and compression sleeve, no leaks at all.

Does anyone else haing any suggestions for connecting 1/4" tubing to air shocks???? |

Re: how to connect to air shocks
Someone else suggested to me that I clamp a hose around the threaded portion of the shock if I wanted to go with a bigger line. Look through my build thread in my sig.

Re: how to connect to air shocks
Thanks again hotcat. I wanna use air brake tubing and it doesn't stretch and you can't clamp it. Plus I really would like to stick with 1/4" tubing and I would need 3/8" tubing to be able to clamp it to the threads. I would also worry about it poping off while driving (dangerous).
I know there are a bunch of people running air shocks on their cart. What is everyone using for air line??? Anyone else??? |

Re: how to connect to air shocks
If you do end up drilling that shock port, you can keep the metal from entering the shock body by putting a small ammount of bearing grease on the drill bit end and going slow. The grease will hold the metal shavings and prevent them from entering the shock body.

Re: how to connect to air shocks
You might have a hard time finding them, but they do make adapters to go from the 1/16 lines to the 1/4 lines. However, you might want to consider doing the upgrade to get bigger lines because you're travel (up and down) will be that much faster.

Re: how to connect to air shocks
Danimal, is this for ride or fast showy stuff? If for ride you don't need thah large of lines or a tank. A small vacuum operated pump will do the job.
