Ya. was just thinking if you had the 48v - 80v you could go 72v and get a boost in hp to run the taller gears

No one out there can state the mph increase going to 6:1 gears? I'd like to add them to my cart but would like to hear from others. Currently, I'm running 25-27 mph on a 42 volt Ezgo. I'm upgrading my cables to 4 Ga this weekend. I hope it helps.

My best suggestion would be to use the speed calculator to aproximate the end result as the OP did. I don't know of anything else to do. It is disappointing that no one ever came back and stated the results on this thread. I'm currently in the midst of changing form 12:44 to 8:1 gears and I'll certainly post the reslts in that thread but I think the issue with the lack of answer is that it is something that has not been widely done with electric carts. Seems many more do gear changes with the gas powered carts.

Here is the speed calculator again.

here's the results....virtually no torque with the 6:1, but did gain 8-10 mph, topped out at 37. The stock 9hp motor just doesnt have the balls to keep the speed steady, lose 5 mph just to the wind!!! But as I said earlier, that problem will take care of itself with the 23hp Vanny, have calculated a top speed around 60 !!! Will keep you posted

finally completed BB swap !!! 23 Vanny with HP cam and rev kit, pushing the hp up to around 28, according to Tom at CPP. Not realizing that having larger tires, 23", would change the 6:1 gear ratio, it ended up being closer to 8.8:1, am still breaking in the motor but have hit 45 so far. Figure once it's broken in and dialed in, I'll hit around 50. FUN>>>FUN>>>FUN

Funny thing is is even with a 6" lift and all terrain tires, it rides and handles pretty *** good too

Finally got rid of the governor out of the rear end, added 6/1 gears, putting in the 23hp Vanny, rev kit,6" lift and 23"all terrains on 12" wheels, cam from Tom at CCP, header and muffler from a Kawasaki KZ6 and have hit a hair over 55 so far. I still need to adjust the belt to fine tune it but not too shabby

Question Re: from 12:1 to 6:1 gears..

The biggest problem with high speed gears on electric is battery use. The motor has to keep up with the gears and it drains the batteries pretty quick for a long distance rider.
I have 6:1 in the dragster and it's running 50MPH in the 1/8 mile.
That is with me charging them before every run. If I don't charge between every run I lose at least 5 MPH each time.

The dragster cart will hit 50 MPH but not for a all day ride it will burn the batteries pretty quick.

The motor has to have so many volts and amps to substain the MPH for any length of time and it just can't do it all day long.
Even your AC you have noticed it want run as long as it did when it was DC, at least mine want and it's a beach cart ran on flat ground. I can ride it most of the day but it want last 2 days like it did before. I have to charge it every night now to keep the 29-30MPH up and distance.
