Front spindle question?
How can I be certain that the front spindles are not bent. I have aftermarket wheels and I feel a slight bounce in the front end. I have a street cart that is lowered. I cant tell if its in the rims or the spindles.

Re: Front spindle question?
NOYAT
It is difficult to bend a set of spindles, that axle will bend on your cart way before the spindles will, but it is possible. One thing you can do is just use a floor jack so your front tires are off the ground and just manually spin them, look at the edges of your rims and see if there is a wobble to them. You may also want to look at your hubs to make sure they are on tight. When you did your conversion did you ever take them off and make sure they are in good shape and repack the grease in the bearings? Remember you changed your geometry of your cart entirely so it may ride different from when you first got it. Hope this helps. LH |

Re: Front spindle question?
Try rotating the tires to see if the problem moves to the rear.. If the front smooths out, you have a tire with a broken/shifted belt, or a rim that is not true.. Also make sure the lugs have been properly torqued.. The lightweight hubs used on these carts can be deformed by overtorquing, or unevenly torquing the lug nuts.. Most carts don't use hardened studs like cars do, and only require about 70-75 ft. lbs. of torque, applied in a "criss-cross" pattern..

Re: Front spindle question?
A bent spindle CANNOT cause a wheel/tire to bounce. The spindle is static, the hub/bearing spins ON it carrying the wheel/tire package. If a spindle gets bent it would cause wear in the bearings or simply unusual wear on the tire. Swap the front and back wheels and see if the problem changes.
Now a bent REAR AXLE will cause a bounce..... |

Re: Front spindle question?
should be. the motorcycle performance shop that i frequent, has a wheel balancer that can go down to a minimum wheel and tire diameter of 10 or 12 inches IIRC. I dont know how much a shop would charge to just balance your wheels.
But if you are a Do It Yourselfer, you can go to a place like Harbor Freight and get a wheel balancer pretty cheap, then order some stick on wheel weights online somewhere and go at it |
