Default California street legal

What's the deal now in California you cannot make a cart street legal anymore without a 17 digit vin number and from what I understand you cannot get one after the fact can anyone explain

A number of states require the vehicle to come from the manufacturer as a LSV and therefore require a regular VIN. Wisconsin is the same way. We can't license regular golf carts. Sorry.

I can't say I'm surprised. I've been a CA resident all my life, just keeps getting worse every year. My cart is registered on the partial VW pan with vin as a '67 VW bug I have no idea how they got it through the DMV, but that's how it's registered (off highway vehicle) and I have a green sticker for it here. Several people have questioned what it would take to make it street legal, but I have no interest in that at this point.

You can still register in CA with the 7 digit Serial number as a ELEC "GV"
DMV code for electric golf cart.

Just did mine in January. You have to go to a golf cart savoy DMV.

Do you have any more details on this? I spoke to the local CHP office today, and they are adamant that you need both a Manufacturer's Statement of Origin (MSO) and a 14 digit VIN...? PM me if you'd prefer.

Thanks!

You can get the MSO through the manufacture. I emailed Textron and had the MSO a week later. That is the first step.

PM me and I can give you further details.

Here in Utah if you sign a declaration of ownership you can apply for a VIN number they rivet on. And OHV stickering isn't required to use them any where off road.
