PQ Bandit results + question
I think I posted this in the wrong spot a earlier...
My 8 month old dauther bought (and installed) me a PQ Bandit for my 2007 CC Precedent. This is my first child and had I known they come baring such cool gifts I would have started a family years ago. (my wife is awesome) What can I say...it was a good fathers day. Let me preface my next comments by saying my cart was locked in at 14 mph on speed code 3. Up/down/round and round didn't matter....14 mph. I'm running stock wheels and tires. Cart is stock except rear seat kit and long roof. The Bandit motor is well worth the SMALL retail price. I use my cart around my community and it's mostly rollers. Not too many big hills but not flat either. False flats everywhere. The Bandit does more than it's job on the flats and slighty down hills. On relatively flat streets it's about 23-25 mph. Even the smallest down hill and it's 27-30 mph. No regen rocks!! For the money I am more than exstatic about this motor. That said, (and I hate to even say it cause the guys at PQ are the BEST) I don't feel like the torque changed at all. On even the slightest uphills the cart slows down to about 15 mph (even with a 25 mph running start at them) and on decent uphills slower yet. Had I not gone into the motor swapping believing the PQ guys are way ahead of the service and performance game I wouldn't even think to mention this. But when I read this motor will provide 30% more torque I expected more on the slight uphills. However, let me say it again...for $225 YOU CAN NOT BEAT THE BANDIT! I would do (and will) business with Plum Quick again. I won't recommend another company for aftermarket motors period. Everone says it and it's true...they have the best customer service you could ask for. My question is: How can I stabalize my cart for the higher speeds? At 23 mph and up the cart will grab the slight ridge lines in the streets and pull the cart side to side. At 14 mph you barely notice it but at 30 mph it **** near feels like it's going to high side the cart. I know it's more stable than it feels because when I hit pot holes or man hole covers it does nothing. Just not confidence inspiring. Will going to a 12" wheel and low profile tire make a big difference? Suspension parts?? I want to keep the stock ride height. Thanks and thanks to the boys at Plum Quick....please send them your motor business! Hof P.S. For the speed critics....no I do not go that fast with my family in the cart. 20 mph + is for Dad only. |

Re: PQ Bandit results + question
For my DS I installed “steering stabilizers”, small hydraulic arms that will keep the steering “firm”, but not so tight that it will kill your arms to steer. On the stock front there are two small tabs on each end that I had no idea what they were for, I assumed they were steering stops, we drilled and installed one end and then the other is to the center on a pivot/mount (forward of actual steering unit), I would have to remove the front body to take pictures. I operate mine at 20-35 mph while transiting the base and I also had the same issue on some streets, it wasn’t my idea, I have to give credit to the hydraulic engineers, they were a great help on the front and rear suspension stabilizers design and installation.
If you haven’t installed brakes, I highly encourage, I was on a “speed test” without 4 wheel brakes and I almost “crashed and burned” attempting to not plow into someone that stepped out in front of me. Either to install on front to make all wheels have brakes or install disk brakes on all four, I have to laugh for I have drilled and slotted disks brakes on mine and everyone thinks it is too extreme, until we go for a ride. |

Re: PQ Bandit results + question
I appreciate the info. Brakes are def on the radar. At 30 mph I don't get a good feeling about having to stop quickly. Do you big aftermarket wheels? Did that make a big difference?
Can anyone chime in on going from stock wheels and tires to 12's with low pro's??? Any help is much appreciated!! |

Re: PQ Bandit results + question
First I would suggest making sure the front end is aligned good. It sould be but you never know. Both front tires should be a 1/8" in at the front more than the back side of the tire while looking straight ahead. \ /. Not this drastic but you get the point it will track straighter and want wonder as much. The smaller the wheel the more it will be noticed. Bigger wheels will help but not enough since it's not lifted. You want get much bigger tire under it.

Re: PQ Bandit results + question
I was told I could fit a 12" "centered" wheel with 205/30/12's with no rubbing on stock ride height. Anyone have experience with a centered 12" wheel?? Also was told by local dealer to put stiffer springs in the rear. That would help it from side to side sway. Does that sound like good advice?

Re: PQ Bandit results + question
If you have the back seat yes you need the heavy duty springs, but they will make it a lot stiffer ride when no one is on the back. You can go bigger wheels but your limited as to how tall they can be is all I'm saying since it's not lifted.

Re: PQ Bandit results + question
i had hd springs on my 1999 ezgo (with a back seat) and didnt like it at all. I actually bought another set of stock rear springs because i got tired of all the bouncing. It was like no rear suspension at all. ( i had the 3 leaf hd springs) With that being said i mostly ride with my 3 year old daughter. long story short it was ok with 3 or more adults but SUCKED with only one or 2 people. I weigh 190 and my wife weighs around 100 so we arent that big of people either. That is just my 2 cents on hd springs as far as the ride goes. Everyones needs are different. also my cart wanders a little and the hd springs didnt help that any at all. If anything it was worse from bouncing around.
Here is my big question. I really want a bandit motor but i was told only a coulpe mph faster. If it would go 5-10 mph faster i would do it right away. Mine is an older model 1999 ezgo. i would say my average top speed on flat pavement is 15mph. Do you think it will do 20 with the bandit motor? |

Re: PQ Bandit results + question
Thanks for the post! Really going back and forth about getting springs or not. My cart did 14 mph and now does 25 on flats. I def think the bandit is worth the money. Great top end. If you want torque or live in a hilly community you might want to step up to the next motor though.

Re: PQ Bandit results + question
Amperage makes torque, increase the controller & solenoid size and upgrade the cables so the motor can access more amperage to make more torque for the hills and starts.
Ezgoin28, series carts will gain 2-3 mph with the bandit motor. Most of the OP gain is from 'no regen' & he needs to be aware that speeds over 24-25 mph may be over revving his motor .... he may want to call PQ and ask about that? |
