Default Can someone explain wheel offset to me?

I understand wheel offset and back spacing on cars but buying wheels for my ezgo is Greek to me. I assume that a 10x6 "centered" wheel means that it is a "0" offset as a car wheel would be measured. That means that the wheels bolts up exactly in the middle of the wheel. What is a 10x7 with a 3+4 offset, and also what is a 10x8 with a 3+5 offset?

I have a 2002 txt ezgo that I am trying to get to tuck tires. I'm hoping to run staggered wheels and taller rear tires but I need to understand offsets before I can buy wheels/tires. I understand tucking tires may require some fab work but I want to get the right offsets to start with.

I searched but did not find anything that really explained it for me. Thanks in advance.

if a wheel is 7 inches wide and listed as a 3+4 its a 3" backspace with a 1" negative offset from centerline.

depends on how much meat you want hanging out from under the fenders. I think wider is better.

I agree, wider is better, if I can get it to tuck!

So a 10x8 with a 3+5 offset is a 3" back spacing?

Does anyone know what the stock wheels are? I need to base new wheel spacing off of that.

Thank you. That helps me decide what I can get to tuck. There may be some modifications made to make this happen.

Ok stock has no offset, but what is the back spacing of a stock wheel? Or is it different for each manufacture?

There are 7" and 8" wide OEM rims for a golf cart

the rim is 8" in diameter, and 8" wide, you have 4" on the front of the rim, and 4" on the back of the rim, the mounting plate is in the center of the rim, zero offset

Yes, hoping to get tires inside the cart body. For now I'm just lowering my cart but in a couple months ill be adding air ride and I want to get the tires to tuck, wheel size and offset is crucial in making that happen. I only want to buy wheels once if possible. I have air cooled vw's and we install narrowed front beams to accomplish that, I'm hoping to get away with picking the right wheels on the cart though.

thats what i thought.... you may have to go to bigger tire to get it to tuck due to the spindle

but i have never lowered a cart
