Oops.. Wrong wheel offset for lowered EZGO (Pics)
My EZGO build is slowly trudging along. Anyhow, got back from vacation and had a nice surprise awaiting me... My wheels. Had them custom made in England.
Well I ran down to the tire shop and had the tires mounted, then I went home to mount them up. I have already lowered the cart using the EZGO factory kit. If I had to do it over again, I'd save the $300 and just modify the stock axle. I had to do a some welding and CNCing to get it done. Anyhow, the general consensus is that in order to nicely tuck the wheels, a 5/2 offset is ideal... so that's what I had made. 13 X 7" with a 5/2 offset. Well, when I went to mount the rears, the inside of the tire was hitting the leaf spring. Borrowed a set of 1" spacers form my other cart and that came out nicely. Then I mounted the fronts. No rubbing problems here, but the tires sit so far inboard that I think it looks a little strange. Contemplating using 1" spacers here as well. I have hydraulic discs brakes on the way and I'm hoping they are compatible with wheel spacers. Snapped a few quick pictures. Would love to know your opinions on the stance of the cart. I'm a little bummed cause I think that 4/3 offset would have been better. Do you think I need to space out the fronts? DSC05164.jpg DSC05166.jpg DSC05170.jpg DSC05171.jpg |

Thanks Terry,
Coming from you that means a lot. Do you find at speed that this narrower wheel base is a little squirrelly? This cart should hit 40+ when I'm done with it...don't need any surprises. |

I also think it looks great. Just remember, build it for you not for us.

Re: Oops.. Wrong wheel offset for lowered EZGO (Pics)
Thanks for the comments everyone.
The front track width still bugs me so I went online and ordered up a couple of sets of 1-1/2" spacers. Figure I still have room to tuck the rears with those. Also will now have a choice of 1", 1-1/2", or no spacer in front. I can also throw these on my lathe and turn them down a little if needed. I'll move the 1" spacers to the front today and take some pics for your opinions Kinda sucks though. Could have just specified a smaller offset and not have to spend the time and $$$. Oh well... that's what makes this interesting. Maybe I can get the guy that makes the discs to not turn off so much on the new hubs. Then I could eliminate the spacers?? |

since you put it that way it is kinda nice that you can "dial-in" the perfect offset with spacers. atleast youre looking on the bright side of things

I like the frt wheels tucked in like that. NOT sure how it would handle at speed.
GREAT looking cart. |
