Shortening DS Steering Column
Can anyone give me a recommendation on how to or where to get a shortened steering column for a Club Car DS cart? Ours has one of those rear-facing seats that converts to a flat bed shelf. The problem is that the frame for it pushed the front seat back forward and I am leaning on the steering wheel. It would help if the steering column was about 6" shorter.
Anyone here that can provide some advice, please? |

Re: Shortening DS Steering Column
The only thing I can suggest is take it out of the cart. Cut it in half and cut the required length you want out of the shaft then weld it back together.

Re: Shortening DS Steering Column
6"?! Are you sure the seat is installed correctly? I don't know how it can be installed incorrectly but I cant see how it would have pushed the seat back forward that much. Post a picture

I would add a sleeve,so that the shaft isn't just butt-welded.Hope this helps.

Re: Shortening DS Steering Column
I guess the easiest fix is to just bore a hole through my chest and steer behind my back!

Re: Shortening DS Steering Column
I will check out and see if those little bars are installed. It was done for me as I am a neophyte, but intend to change that as soon as I can!
Thanks! |

Re: Shortening DS Steering Column
I cut mine and beveled down both sides of shaft C clamped a pc of angle to keep straight welded really good. and put back together I've cut two of these down and 4" is about the max I think I would go. Good luck to you Joe100

Re: Shortening DS Steering Column
I personally took them pieces out of the equation, but doing that required notching out the plastic on the back of the seat. Wasn't hard, just time consuming. Gave me back about 3 inches between me and the steering wheel.
