Default G2 excessive blow by

Before I tear my engine apart to replace piston rings etc,is there any thing I'm overlooking that would cause excessive blow by ? At high RPMs the
pressure will blow the oil filler cap off. I have never worked on these engines before.

I don't know if you're missing anything or not, but you're right....it's not supposed to blow the oil cap off. That's a lot of back pressure. Did you check your pcv?

Just to throw it out there, I had that happen a few times. Clean the rubber cap and the inlet tube with some brake cleaner. The oil makes it slippery and not stick in there securely like it should. There’s also a chance it’s just a 30 year old rubber cap that’s seen better days.

Thats a good point. If the engine runs good and doesn't smoke etc then? The only way to test condition of an engine is to do a leakdown test.

Thank you. I will make sure my oil cap is clean and dry, that should help. How do you do a leak down test?

Check out some YouTube videos, it's super easy. Just make sure you use a decent tester. I've had some Harbor Freight compression testers and they were junk, so I can't recommend those. I have used the "OTC" brand and it seems decent for the price.

Maybe one of these days I’ll have to get a real tool but my blow tip has a rubber cap on the end. I just wedge that in the spark plug hole and squeeze the trigger. Then listen for the hiss
