Default Ezgo TXT runs better without resistor

I have been having issues with my cart for a while and have been troubleshooting the system with the help of several pro's on this forum. My original thread was "Solenoid clicks but cart will not move (sometimes)". Last week I accidentally broke my solenoid resistor and the cart was running perfectly without the resistor. I did not have a problem for a whole week. The new resistor finally came in and after I installed it the problem is back. I am having a problem with the cart intermittently not moving when I press on the peddle. Does anyone know why the resistor would be causing the problem. The old resistor was good until I accidentally broke it trying to clean the cart.

I appreciate any help with this.

Below are my carts specs.

2000 Ezgo TXT series cart
All upgrades were through Scotty B. Scotty B helped me though the 36-48v conversion and was awesome.
-Upgraded it to 48v. 8 6v batteries with 48v charger.
-Alltrax 500 controller
-48v solenoid
-Heavy duty F/R switch
-2g wires
-6 inch lift with off road tires

I'd check with ScottyB and see if your controller requires the charge resistor. Some controllers have one built in.

Alltrax's website, and product manuals, are VERY specific that a precharge resistor and diode are required to maintain your warranty (but oddly not included). The SPM will throw a code if resistor is not present. It is really strange how yours is acting, i have never seen that one before on a alltrax (i have seen cars that were not happy without 2 resistors, some for reasons i never could discover).

If you have the new SPM type Alltrax control it should not run without a precharge resistor.

Yes, resistor and diode are required. Make sure the resistor is wired in the correct direction and is for the right amperage though.

Just a thought.

Resistors care not a bit which "direction" they are installed... Diodes, on the other hand, will explode if installed in the wrong direction (stripe towards the pos wire is correct).

Whats happening with this cart? I've never heard of a pre-charge resistor slowing a cart down

I think I jumped the gun by saying it runs better without the resistor. I have been having intermittent problems with the cart just not running. It just happened to be having a good week after I removed the resistor, but the problem came back. Since then I have installed a new resistor. The crazy part is, after work yesterday I tried to ride it and it would not go. I did a lot of troubleshooting and it still would not run. Around 10pm I walked out to feed the dogs and pushed in the peddle to see what would happen and everything was good. It's driving me nuts!!!!!
