Will a light foot improve runtime?
I recently put an alltrax DCX400 into my 2004 PDS.(Stock everything else but #4 gauge throughout.)
YEEHAA! Question is...by keeping my foot up off of the floor once I have it rolling, will I be able to extend runtime over WOT? Or will the controller just turn the unused throttle travel into heat? Thanks for any replies. Russ |

Re: Will a light foot improve runtime?
Since about 1990 ezgo has converted it's carts to the solid state speed control system ...... It uses only as much amperage as the gas peddle calls for. So a light foot translates into longer run times...... Prior to '89 the old resistor carts drew full power no mater how light you were with the gas peddle and the unused portions were burned off by the resistor coils

Re: Will a light foot improve runtime?
EXCELLENT!
So...I will play around with it for a few days, and then begin practicing peddle restraint. I have DEKA G10 batteries, and the group of buggies I run with all run Trojan T-105's So the fuel tank was already about 15% smaller than theirs to begin with. Great upgrade from stock controller. I expected the torque increase, but the speed increase was a suprise! I was running a GPS 19.1 before, and today I walked away from a GPS 21.3 cart with a couple of MPH to spare. Hope I don't grenade the motor...I will try to behave on grades! Thanks! |

Re: Will a light foot improve runtime?
The load the motor is asked to pull has the most to do with amp draw. If you have the rear wheels off of the ground the motor will draw very little no matter how far down the pedal is pushed. If you are on a steep hill or have the cart loaded heavy it can draw a lot with the pedal down only a little. The throttle pedal tells the controller to tell the motor to turn a specific rpm depending on where the pedal is. If the pedal is telling the motor to turn 2000 rpm but it is only turning 1600 rpm due to load the controller will throw the amps to the motor to try to get it to 2000 rpm. Think of it like a variable speed electric drill. When you pull the trigger to set the speed you want it is drawing very little electricity. When you put the drill bit to work the speed controller tries to keep the speed at the speed you set and the current draw increases to try to maintain that speed.
If you had a amp meter on your power cables you could watch the amp draw change with a constant pedal setting depending on whether you were going up a hill or down a hill at the same speed. Jim |

Re: Will a light foot improve runtime?
Jim's right
What we all can relate to is the tank of gas in the car or truck..... If driving around town and you hit the gas every time you pull away from a stop light? The hard acceleration burns more gas than easing away up to speed ..... |

A light foot may help, but not as much as loosing 50 lbs
Sorry - someone was going to say it sooner or later The 50 lbs can come off the cart, too, you know... |

Re: Will a light foot improve runtime?
We're just trying to pass along some holiday cheer.....
Which reminds me, pass on the extra Christmas cookies and other sweets. This will assist in the 2010 run time delima |
