1995 Ezgo Medalist, electric
I have a used 1995 EzGo Medalist that I am trying to get back on the course. While checking the brakes I find that the driver side rear wheel does not move when jacked up with the brake off.
Further investigation shows that the driver side rear brake is engaged against the brake drum. The is no play or movement in the brake cable to this wheel. I took the cable off and tried to slide the inner cable within the outer housing and there is very little movement. So the question is how much movement should this cable have, should it slide easily within the housing or is it normal to be very snug. Do I need a new cable to just a brake adjustment? Motor is removed from the cart, and the passenger side wheel moves freely. With the drum removed the driver side wheel also moves freely. |

Remove the entire cable assemblies (both) from the cart and hang them from the garage rafter. Start pouring motor oil down the casing till it comes out the other end. Work the cables back and forth through the casings. There should be NO resistance. If there is friction the brakes will probably drag. New cable assemblies are not too expensive, and on your age of cart they may be rusted badly.
