A little feedback?
Hi all,
Bought my first cart about 3 weeks ago (2004 PDS, 08 Batts, 4 gauge wires, headrests, and switchery to give me all 4 “chip” modes without removing controller cover) otherwise, stock. I put in a light kit, and cut a small wood panel to fit into the center compartment of the dash to mount the switch in. Well…I got to looking at the unused space in this panel and wondering what to put in there. Here is what I came up with… I want to 2 automotive type temperature gauges there (probably transmission temp. gauges). The sensor for one would be J.B. welded to the case of the motor, and the other sensor would go on the heat sink of the controller. By learning the “normal” temp ranges of these 2 components, I should be able to tell the difference between "fun” and “abuse” I know that the controller will shut down if it gets too hot, but I would like to be able to see it coming. So… Anybody else done anything like this? Any suggestions for best placement of sensors? Am I just nuts? Any feedback would be appreciated, and…thanks for the great site! Russ. |

sounds like it should work to me. Shouldn't have to jb weld it. Find a bolt on the cover and bolt the sensor to the motor and the controller.

As others have asked, take pictures. I'm interested in doing the same. I've reached the thermal limit of my controller many times when using the cart off-road in heavy terrain. Prolonged slow speed really heats up the contoller (the controllers diodes have to work hard at slow speed). I installed a much larger heat sink and that has helped much but it would be nice to be able to monitor controller temp!

Why not add a digital gauge for your battery pack as well, then you'll have a complete set, making sure you don't go below 48.41 volts before charging
