Default First Post - HELP! w/elect EZGo

Wow! Nice Forum you guys have here. Tons of information.
I hope you can help me here.

I have a 96 elect. EZGo I am working on.

All of the battery cables down at the direction switch get HOT when it is driven. They only get hot down by the switch, not at the motor end.
I have put all new cables between the batteries. All the batteries test good (Trojens).
The cart starts out, well, okay, and then gets slower and slower. Will not pull any sort of incline.
Working on this cart for a client - need answers FAST!!
Thanks. I work on tons of carts and was glad to fond this site. Hope to help some of you all sometime!

Thanks for any insite you might have.

Hot cables usually mean a bad or loose connection. Your contacts on the F/R switch could be bad and/or pitted and out causing a bad connection too. I would take the F/R switch apart and inspect the contacts as well as make sure the cables are free of corrosion and they make good connection.

Also if its a lifted cart and has larger tires this puts more strain on the electrical components.

Thanks for the reply. I'll check the cables. They look good, no corosion, but I know that doen't mean much.
Does it make sence that all 4 cables get hot while it is in forward?

By the way, it is not a lifted cart, just stock.

Okay, after further investigation the A1 terminal on the traction motor has been so hot that it melted the plastic insulator. The terminal (not the nut holding the cable on) is "loose", comapred to the other terminals. This terminal coinsides with the connection on the F/R switch that is getinh hot as well.
Traction Motor?
Thanks for your help.

You will have to open up the motor to fix that connection. At some point it had a bad connection and went south from there. It will only get worse.

MAN! I was afraid you'd say that! Thanks. I think I am going to break down and go buy a genuine EZGo book for this one. The book I have just will not cut it!
Thanks for all your help.

You can get replacement parts for that motor from most motor rebuilders. EMP MOTORS shoulld have those peices you will need.

Take the rear inspection cover off, 4 cable nuts and 3 bolts for the motor and slip it right off.....might have to wiggle it a little to get it off the axle input shaft.

Just a single bearing I suspect? Right?
I'm very familiar with the gas cars starter/generator. Getting them apart is fairly simple as the brushes are easy to get at. Is that the case with these traction motors? Is it even worth attempting myself?
