Thumbs up 92 club-draining electrical system

My 92 club is hard to turn over. It may fire up and run, after fresh charge on battery, but if it is stopped then it may or may not start again. It's like it tries to turn over, just not enough power to spin the starter. Then it drains the battery after a couple of attempts. Things I have checked/replaced:
Battery, solenoid, brushes good on starter/gen, no loose connections.
Is there a way to ohm out the starter field/armature?
Any help welcome, thanks
