Default Tomberlin emerge 2007 motor sparks

i just bought a very used 2007 emerge and it has been sitting for a year. charged all the batteries to just over 50v last night and flipped the tow button. when i turned key on and hit the gas it didn't move but oul hear spark by the wire going into the motor. finally decided to give a little push and hit gas and it started moving about 8-10mph. when i stopped after about 50 feet i could smell a slight burning smell so i hit tow and put back in the garage. does this sound like a possible bad ground or wire connection?

thank you in advance.

Sounds as if the motor has become pitted/fluted. I recently experienced the same problem with my 2010 and unfortunately had to replace the motor. What you here is the motor arcing which is what causes the pitting. Emerge would shutter upon take off and gradually stop shuttering as speed increased. Problem continued to worsen to the point that the cart would barely run. I was able to buy a new replacement motor for $750 from Buggies Gone Wild. I hope my opinion has helped. I also hope you find that the problem is due to something else with a less expensive solution.

Thanks for the update! Does your motor have the open grate over the brushes? Not a good design.

Congratulations on getting your problem solved. You saved yourself hundreds of dollars....

The large majority of the time, all you have to do is clean up the commutator, free the brushes and re-install.
