No spark
I have a 77 Harley Golf cart. I have points arching but no spark at plug, when grounded to head. Every now and then I will hear a pop with plug screwed in. Pull plug and ground to head and no spark. Tried several coil to plug wires no change. Holding the wire while grounded will ZAP me but will not transfer through plug. Compression is 115, lbs, tried fuel' starter fluid strait in cylinder will pop some but still wont run. Timing mark is at factory setting point gap .020 and plug gap at .025 have varied up to .040 Have changed to fresh fuel mixture and no change. Pulled muffler same. I am sure I'm missing something stupid simple but looking for advice. Thanks in advance for any help

Re: No spark
You can feel that "zap" without there being enough voltage to fire a spark plug. I would check the ignition coil and the ballast resistor.

Re: No spark
Glad you got it going. Sometimes it is those small, seemingly insignificant things that will drive you nuts.

Re: No spark
Do a Google search on "ballast resistor" and you will get a tons of pics of what they look like.

If your coil has no resistance that you will likely have to install an external ballast resistor. |
