Re: 24mm Experimental Carburetor
Get an adjustable main jet and take the emulsion tube from the 625's carb. Then you should have a very tuneable carb with somewhat less maximum flow.

Re: 24mm Experimental Carburetor
Does anybody know, if a guy were to get out the epoxied fuel mixture screw would the fuel fixture screw out of a gx390 carb work in the vc625 carb?

Re: 24mm Experimental Carburetor
Nibbi racing is the carb I used, just put one on the 625 in our little yard buggy and it made a huge difference in mod and top end power.

Re: 24mm Experimental Carburetor
Ok....I got another stocker 24mm carb from VC and managed to get th mixture screw extracted, and another one built as per Shepard's instructions. Can someone give me a starting setting for the mixture screw and save me a little time on initial startup & warmup?
Thanks for any info.... Jim |

Re: 24mm Experimental Carburetor
On my modded VC 460 both the adjustable main and adjustable idle jet are open 1.5 turns. I would think that would put you in the ball park.

Re: 24mm Experimental Carburetor
I have one of the early Shepard modified 24mm carbs. It helped out tremendously to get a reasonable idle from it. I made up a custom filter arrangement and with the extra flow the needle Shep used takes about 2.75 turns out with my filter arrangement. Maybe less for some if the needle is a different shape on the tip or filter is more restrictive. I had been using a dual filter set up for increased flow but the extra air was too much for the adjustment range of the 24mm modified carb so I went back to a single filter. The dual filter setup really opened up the intake flow for mid to high range throttle openings but made the idle more difficult. If I want to use the high flow filter setup I will need to spring for a 32/34mm Mikuni and go through the jetting process again. I would love to know what the jets used are in that Nibbi carb to give me a head start with a Mikuni.

Re: 24mm Experimental Carburetor
Hello All,
Just recently back into the golf cart forum world and very new to the big block world. I just put in a VC 625 kit into an Ezgo TXT. Cart is hard to start and takes a few pumps on the gas pedal to get it going. It also backfires when you are just cruising and let off the gas... went off the carb tuning help on VC website about hand drilling open the idle jet and seems like I went a little too big after a couple tries because it runs rich. I have searched for jets/jets kits for the carb (Huyai 24mm) and have had no luck finding them and along my search I found this thread. Can anyone point me in the right direction for jets/jet kits? Is the only way to get this carb tuned correctly by doing the adjustable air/fuel mixture? Lastly, Shepard, I believe I cant message you since I am so new on here but interested in sending you my carb cause I am far from a machinest! Thank you all for the help in advance! |

Re: 24mm Experimental Carburetor
Carb needs to be adjustable to tune it, or at least change the jets out. That is the problem with these cheap epa carbs. I use a slide carb now it works far better but had to make a whole intake setup to get it on there. Shepard did a nice job making them work better, the idle mix must be right on to get a low idle. backfire letting off is usually too lean. The main jet you can file it open with a torch tip cleaner to make it larger, go little at a time, make sure its warmed up when you test run it, if you can't get a jet for a carb. But the idle is tiny even the drill set I got looked too big for my clone carb. I put a strand of wire through it and sawed it back and forth for a while and that seemed to make it big enough. The idle jet is basically the maximum flow for your idle mix if you can get an adjustable screw on it.
