Comet clutch help Yamaha g2

Bought a g2 that was sitting for awhile. New belts. But has a jerky start. Took front clutch apart due to it having to rev high before it engages the belt. Which leads to the jerk on the start. I know nothing about this clutch. I have read some things on here about them but I can’t get the outside cover off to even look at the weights or pucks. Any help would be great!

That's a 94c Duster. It's completely tunable. Different springs and weight combinations will change the engagement and also shift rate. To get the cover off you'll need to put a bolt or puller in the threads. I believe it's a 9/16 X 20 thread. Hold the clutch in your left hand with your hand in between the sheaves and smack the bolt and it'll come apart. There should be a silver spring in there along with 9 weights.....7/8 weight. Should result in a 1500 rpm engagement. It's possible that the clutch could need a good cleaning.

Is it worth all the tunning on it? Or just go oem stock?

I have had good outcome getting the engagement where I wanted - fairly early ( low rpm) . Somewhere here is a name and phone number of a guy who worked at Comet, and is now with their successor. But I have little luck searching the site

For your application leave it stock. I'd open it up to confirm the weights and color of the spring. Then make sure it's clean and put it back together.

Thank you to everyone! I’m hopefully going to be able to get it apart today and see what it looks like. Then go from there. If I choose to just go oem stock is this clutch worth anything?

Got it apart!!! Now what haha some surface rust on spring and shaft I’m going to clean up but other then that it’s pretty clean. Does it stick off the start cause the weight is to much for stock?

This clutch is probably the original factory clutch. I'm guessing Yamaha used these for a period of time in their production. It should already be tuned for your cart. I believe it came with a 1550 rpm engagement. You'll need to remove the spring and clean the shaft up. Also clean inside the bushing on ths side with the weights. Then put a thin layer of grease on both. This clutch came with the dust cover correct?
