Drive clutch metal noise
See this video i made today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHly...ature=youtu.be
The drive clutch of my 99 Club Car DS is making some weird noise, sounds like metal to metal. I read in the forum, that it might be bad belts. I took of the drive belt but there hasn't been any chance. The starter belt looks cracky, but I'm not sure if a bad starter belt could cause a sound like this. Does anyone have an idea how to get this problem fixed? Greetings from Austria Stefan |

You already tried taking the drive belt off, with no change? Someone on here will recognize the sound ! |

Re: Drive clutch metal noise
Sounds like the bearing in the starter/generator to me. Take the belt off the starter/generator and turn the pulley by hand. I'll bet it's fairly crunchy.
If so, it's a 6204-2rs bearing. |

Re: Drive clutch metal noise
Sounds plausible, the starter doesn't act healthy already for a longer time.
I'll let you know by the weekend. Thanks! |

Re: Drive clutch metal noise
I bought a cart that made the exact same noise. Swapped with a spare starter/generator I had laying around and all was well. Recently replaced the bearing in it so now I've got another good spare for a rainy day :) bearing is pretty easy to replace. Remove the nut and pulley, then pull the end cap off. The bearing is in there with a snap ring. May have to be careful and coax it out, but it's a flat piece mostly so you could use a bench vise and a socket to press the new bearing back in if you dont have a press. It's not really pressed in "tight" just a snug enough fit so it dowsnt come loose.
20 minute job if you take your time. It takes longer to remove the unit from the cart than it does to replace the bearing. May want to pick up a set of brushes and do them while it's already out. |

Re: Drive clutch metal noise
I've checked everything today and the bearing realy seems to have a lot of play. I've bought a new bearing, hopefully I'll get it on Wednesday. Fyi, the bearing is 6303 2RS.

Re: Drive clutch metal noise
I've changed both bearings and now it's like music in my ears.
Thanks you so much for your advice, I've been thinking about this problem for almost two years now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8vw...ature=youtu.be |

That's a lot cheaper than a clutch :) |
