Default Tapered clutch adapter problem

Hi I just recently bought a gas Yamaha g9 that I'm installing a 18hp Briggs in. I'm having trouble with the adapter. I drilled and tapped the 1 inch shaft and cut to the length of the adapter. Here is my issue I can't get the clutch tight to the engine(doesn't slide all the way down the adapter) there's still a 1/2 inch of the adapter showing. This is causing me alignment issues. I'm using a team clutch from a g29 on the briggs.

The adapter is tight to the shoulder of the crank so I know that's as far in as possible.

Are you sure the clutch you are using has the same taper? Did you try and fit the adapter inside the clutch while it's on the bench? Not tapered clutches are the same. Should be a 30mm taper.

Post a pic of both apart and both mated together.

The clutch from the g29 drive is a 30mm taper. The adapter says it's for a 30mm taper also. I will take some pics and send them thanks guys for the help. Also I will try the bench test.

Also does anyone know off hand which lead is the charging lead off this engine? It has the silver box with 2 yellow wires and a red wire coming from it.
