Default 18 horse carb question/problem

Hey all, I need some input on getting my carb tuned correctly.
Our property is at 8500 feet above sea level and while my cart runs good it is a royal pain to get started, If I turn the idle mixture screw in until it starts good it will surge and cut out while driving. If I back it out to where it runs good it is hard starting.
I brought it home last weekend and at our house which is 4500 feet above sea level the **** thing starts and runs perfect. I need it to run this good in the mountains.
My 14 horse carb never had any issues, it would start and run great, but I like the power increase of the 18 carb. I am assuming I am getting to much fuel at the higher altitude, so I was thinking of rebuilding the carb and using the smaller main jet out of the 14 horse???

Swap the pilot jet from the 14 into the 18.

Upon further review...

It appears that the pilot jets are the same. Verify that first. Swap the main and see what you get.

Unless the carb is pretty beat up, it should just need a cleaning. It is actually cheaper to just buy another used carb than to buy a rebuild kit. The kit is over $50.

I have been looking around at pats, and noticed they have high altitude jets, (9000) feet, but there are several different ones, what is the difference?? and how do I know which one I need??
