Default 89 ezgo electric

i got an 89 ezgo 36 volt cart batteries are bad except 2 of them I don't wanna spend the money for a new set so I have access to all the 12 volt batteries I need they are deep cycle gel filled batteries so my question is can I use the 2 6 volt batteries and 2 12 volt batteries to make my 36 volts . And use the 2 6 volt batteries for reverse of course . The cart is not worth the money it would cost for new batteries Thanks
