scored some nice cables...and a battery question
So I know I want to upgrade my cables from the 6 gauge to a bigger size, so I call an electrician friend of mine to ask him where is a good place to get 4 gauge welding cable, he says, "can you use #2/0 gauge?" I asked why and he says," I have 30' you can have, I have it left over from a job.....let me bring it by." bwahahahahahah!! I am going to a place tomorrow that has the proper press to put ends on it for me. Sometimes it not what you know, but who you know. As for my battery pack; They are Trojan T105's with a born date in 2006. I left my Powerwise II charger on until it shut itself off, waited 2 hours and measured the batteries. the pack measures 38.45 volts. Battery 1 measures 6.34 Battery 2 measures 6.46 Battery 3 measures 6.38 Battery 4 measures 6.35 Battery 5 measures 6.35 Battery 6 measures 6.36 I am wondering if these are "ok" readings. I will wait until the morning and measure again. Does anyone have anything to add on the battery voltages? Battery 2 seems to be the oddball here....wondering if it will level out some by morning. Is the 38.45v for the pack "ok"? Thanks, Mike |

Your voltages are at 100%. Any accessories hooked up to battery 2?

No accessories hooked up to battery # 2.
I just measured everything again and they are still pretty much the sme voltages... Glad to hear they are 100%. |

Your buddy is an Electrician!? That is a RED FLAG right there.... He is an AC electrician? His 2 ga AC cable is not suitable for DC. We use welding cable because it has about 250 strands..... and is fuel and acid resistant..... So I may be wrong but....... I may be right

Darn, that tune is stickin in me head and I can't name it... you may be wrong...
No harm in too big except it is a waste and connectors hard to find? Some guys use #2 welding but it is only needed for extreme builds.... Remember they are only gonna last one set of batteries and the you'll be makin them again! |

Re: scored some nice cables...and a battery question
I guess I wasn't clear in my first post, it is #2/0 WELDING cable...
I understand that it is overkill. Believe me, I understand. BUT, free is free. There is a place here in town that makes cables for the coal mines and I am sure they have the necessary equipment to put ends on the cables. I don't know the strand count on #2/0 gauge welding cable, but it looks impressive. I cut the cables last night and I am taking them today to have ends put on. |

Re: scored some nice cables...and a battery question
Boy, I'll say!
4ga welding cable is about a buck a foot, we're talkin 12'-20' of cable here. If you're buying the connectors, the 2/0 are 3x the price and will cost you more than the cable. One more thing, 2/0 sounds great until you try getting that stuff all connected to the FNR switch, solenoid and controller. IMHO, I'd give this more thought. |

Re: scored some nice cables...and a battery question
#2 and 2/0 are about 1/8" difference in diameter.
Either way free is good but I wouldn't enjoy routing and connecting 2/0. #2 ain't all that bad though. BTW, I'm fixing to pull a 300' run of 3 each 500MCM and 1 each 250MCM. Any volunteers? |
